I have finally finish my 1970 2.2T, i don't want to sell just yet, but i am interested in a valuation, i am located in West Cornwall, miles away from anywhere but i could travel depending on the distance.

I know theses cars are worth a small fortune these days but i would like to get some kind of figure in my head so i don't sell too cheaply if one day i want to sell.

It seems the prices are all over the place at the minute and it's really hard to gauge.

If you're not selling at this point in time then not sure a valuation serves any purpose apart from for insurance. The market will change and you're not sure when you're going to sell

If you just want to an idea of what they're fetching look at what they go for on other sites, auctions , classifieds etc

Yea that's the trouble, i have been looking on websites, auctions etc, the prices range from £25,000 -£130,000 condition dependent naturally. So it's difficult to get a true valuation for insurance purposes.

I really want to be careful and not end up out of pocket if i crash it, i actually want to use the car rather than restore it then mothball it in the garage, totally pointless.

Would Crispin in Devon do one? Otherwise probably worth a trip to one of the recognised specialists in the south of england as you are likely to require something to support an agreed valuation insurance which I think is a must these days.

If the valuation you need is for insurance purposes, you should work out how much it would cost to replace your car, not how much your car is worth.

It is an exceptional car, wish i could get some photo's up for you. I don't want to fool for the ballpark figure value and hope i don't crash it.

Why would it make any difference getting a valuation just because i'm not selling yet? It's sometimes nice to know what options i have at a particular time.

A valuation tends to be for insurance ( replacement value ) purposes

If you want a valuation as to what it would sell for in the current market at this point in time then your best speaking to a dealer however you'd get a better response if you were wanting to sell as opposed to being inquisitive

Yes Crispin Manners. Totally agree you want to be driving it down the road knowing that if the worst happens you can replace it and to have peace of mind that the valuation will stand up when called upon. Canford Classics, Early911, Paul Stephens, JAZ and Autofarm also come to mind if you end up having to venture into England / London way.

In the current market it's virtually impossible to value a car, hence the number of POAs on dealers' websites. The best people to value a car for resale are the dealers that sell them, if it's for replacement purpose (insurance agreed value) then you are the best person to judge what it would cost.

Seriously, there are cars out there for sale at the moment at all sorts of prices as Jeff has noted. One of them is being discussed in Marketplace Discussion at the moment. In a link on that thread there is a previous discussion on the same car where I valued it at £30K, it's now for sale with a dealer in Yorkshire for £85K , so, IMHO, sale price does not necessarily reflect the true value of the car.

The best person to value your car is yourself, at a price you would feel comfortable selling should you ever wish to, and in a band where a sale is likely to take place.

Cars going from one place to another and huge differences show an overheating market being pumped up by those with vested interests.
Having said that I have seen your car and it is of the highest standard and certainly should be amongst the most expensive.

I run and own a garage myself, fixing, servicing and restoring Porsche's for around 10 years now, i'm what you would call the last of the old fashion engineers that doesn't mind getting my hands dirty.
