Covin narrowbody backdate- Nein12
I've been lurking on here for a while, buying bits and bob for my covin backdate & narrowbody conversion. As with most covins, the body is the 930 wide arch impact bumper style, but its getting early 70's arches with a long nose conversion. The chassis is shortened 67 beetle.

Looks like you're making progress. Be interesting to see how a covin looks without wide arches

Trial fitting a front wing, which is grp but came off a 911.
just on the look out for some front indicator housings. can be scrappy/damaged as they'll be bonded into the wings.

Maybe go 911R style?
Re: Covin narrowbody backdate
i've got a pair of italian spec 69-73 lenses (off lightweight_911 of this forum ). i'll tint the whole lens orange and do a horn grill delete too
i umm'ed and arr'ed about the front lights and wanted to keep the symmetry of the front and rear lights when you look at an early 911 from the side. As its a beetle donor, the fuel tank filler is under the bonnet so i've glassed up the fuel filler flap. Overall looking for cleaned/smooth exterior look hence ditching the horn grills too.

Looking good. How nose-down are you going? Very tempting to wind it right down I bet?

i've got an adjustable beam that just needs a clean & paint ..............apart from the dropped spindles on the front, its running standard beetle ride height. with the light body, it'll certainly need some lowering. I've kept the rims ansd tyres intentionally narrow with the hope to get them tucked up.

Re: Covin narrowbody backdate
more fettling of the drivers front wing last night (on and off about 6 times), which resulted in some choppy choppy to the sill end to get the wing to sit flush. does mean i need to think about how the bottom of the wing will be attached to the sill area.
I'll fill the hole, to the required contour to notch the wing edge in.
Radio aeriel hole filled
4 layers of glass laid up on an old dishwasher door coated with meguiars carnuba wax - need a sheet of flat grp to build the housings for the front indicator boxes

Re: Covin narrowbody backdate
See why you needed to fab up a flat piece of glass now for the front grills. Don't the wings originally come with grill section in place or was it damaged?
It's coming along though.

Re: Covin narrowbody backdate
The second hand wings didn't come with the housing sections for the lights and horn grill as they had broken off a while back. Not sure if these grp wings were originally for IB's then modded. You can buy pre-made GRP conversion boxes to convert IB wings to long nose but are £140 a pair and just not worth it for this build.
