914 Fuel guage.....Help!

Hi Folks,
I hope some of you smart guys can help me .

Since getting my car back on the road and getting in some miles, I'm unable to fully relax and enjoy due to non functioning fuel gauge........ Despite carrying a gallon in a can, I'm always worried I'm gonna end up in the middle of a junction with a dead engine !

I used 914 gauges and the stock beetle sender. Two terminals on the combo 914, marked "G" and "+". on the sender I have one terminal.

I have an aftermarket loom. So far:
- I have connected the sender to the "+" and the "G" on the gauge to ground....nothing
- As above and earthed the sender via one of the fixing screws....nothing

I'm assuming that the "G" is a ground but I'm guessing may not be....

Can anyone help pls........

Thanks for reading and have a pic of my car out and about yesterday, parked by a Loch, (behind the camera...) :)

+ = 12 volts

G = input for sender

Earth = is the tag on the gauge metal casing plate.

Thanks all !

We now have a working gauge :)

Its a speedster rep, (glassfibre) so needed to earth the sender ! No stabiliser in the mix so far...

Not clear how accurate it is, but a wee run , with my gallon in a can) will soon clear that up !!

Thanks again !
