Mad Prices - or Good Investments ?

Post by NAB »

I guess we're all very aware of the high prices being achieved for Carrera RS's - £200k seems to be becoming the norm. I've spotted a similar thing with Aston Martin DB5s - relatively recently these were £100k - last week at Brooklands one sold for £330k... even the DB6's which aren't nearly as nice looking are now heading towards £200k and they used to be a £60k car. A DB4 Zagato would be well over £1million.

Has anyone else spotted any fast appreciating classics ?

It's been many a year since a DB5 could be had for £100k. Would probably struggle to get a decent DB6 for that price these days, I think.

Would take a DB4 any day over a 5 though... especially this one (although a 'standard' DB4GT would do it, too):

Money no object, natch.

Frog eye's , series1 landy's , IB Porsche's ... some of the more run of the mill car's I have watched go up in value recently

More fun than sticking it in a savings a/c and watching inflation eat it up.

When I bought my Pagoda (9 years back), mid 20s was a decent price and 30 toppy. Dino's were ~50k. Try find a decent Dino for less that 110. Agree on the Astons - they were below 100 9 years back

Anything with a passport to historic racing seems to have gone mad too: Lotus Cortina, Escort (Mexico/RS2000), Mini cooper....

I can see some of the "investment" logic - Headingham was much more fun than reading the money pages of the FT - but I am so old I remember E-types north of 60k in the late 80s...

one good thing is that alot of cars are being restored that may not have been economically viable 5-10 years ago.

I was reading recently that Jaguar are getting ready to launch their 700k C-X75 car, well I remember what happened the market when they last had a go at this .........

They're all mad prices ...

- still kicking myself for turning down this DB4 for £900 (I could probably have got it for £850) !
