Will I fit?!

Post by james911rs »

Thinking of buying a 914, but at 6ft 4in think It might be a bit tight. I had loads of room in my 911 but the 914 is much lower.

I am also 15 stone so what is the width like? will I be up against the door?

Thanks
Sam

Loads of room in a 914. Especially width. Try one, but I think you'll be just fine.

Hi James,

I had the same concerns, not quite as tall as you at 6-2 but a bit heavier and can assure you the 914 is quite a suprise, getting in is easy (gravity helps) and the seat is "snug" but elbow room is fine for a '70's sports car.

Now getting out is another matter...

Happy hunting!

I'd have through that you'd be OK

If you are looking for a '14, what I would say is to try a couple - there are nice ones out there but many aren't!

Worth speaking to Kevin Clarke (he posts here - 914Kev) - he probably knows of one.

I'm 6'3" and 15 stone and my mate is 6'4" and nearer 16 stone. We both fit in fine and have survived a weeks rallying together.

You should be fine. I've got a momo wheel which probably helps....

Good luck

I should have added on previous post, my mate is travelling to the US in November to track down a decent 914. There's room in a container for two. I can drop u his details if you want to contact and see if it's of interest. Pm me.

Good luck

Ive actually found one from a ddker which is a bit of a project, which is what I want really. Something to do over the winter to get on the road for the spring.

But thanks for the offer.

Hi How far away are you from Newton Poppleford? you could go and see Crispin Manners at Oak tree garage, he's usually got 914's in for repairs/service and he will tell you all you need to know about 14's.

Hi, just read your thread, I'm in Andover, just up the 303 from you, I have a RHD and a LHD here, neither car can be driven--as I cant get them out of the garage (too many projects in the way) ---however if you need to drop your arse into a car you're more than welcome.
Just give me a call on 07785 792412.
Ref height, a friend of mine also a 14er now living in Russia is about as tall as you and they aren't a problem for him.
Cheers

Hi James,
I am 6'4" and weigh even more than 15 stone
Anyway, I fit into my 914 just fine. You may find leg room a bit tight if you have very long legs, mine are 33" inside leg when I am buying trousers! I drive my 14 without a shoe on my right foot as it gives me a bit of extra length. This is only really an issue for selecting 1st gear cos with shoes on my leg is a little more bent such that the lever just contacts my knee. I also have a slightly smaller than standard steering wheel which gives a bit more knee room.
However, all that said the 914 is probably the most comfortable "hoby" car I have ever owned.
Buy one and enjoy.
