Rear hub oil seal replacement

This week I decided to replace the leaking seal on the left hand rear hub. After removing the reduction gear housing cover I found that the large gear had to be removed with a puller having legs that would fit through 21mm diameter holes. All of my existing pullers had larger legs so I decided to make some from 20mm steel bar and weld some bolts on the ends to use with my Sealey hydraulic puller kit – well the home-made legs worked but the hydraulics failed and the gear only moved about 1mm! After some frantic Ebay searching I bought an old Sykes Pickavant (you really can’t beat old British engineering) hydraulic puller set for £83 and 4 days later I was able to remove the offending gear, replace the oil seal and all three bearings too. The puller and legs are available on loan should you wish to do this on your tractor.
I will post the bearing and seal part numbers later.
Notice the white painted finish of gearbox internal casings, a nice touch.
Also interesting to note that other than the press fit of the reduction gear and bearings to the shaft of the rear hub, there is only a small circlip held in place by a spacer tube, that prevents the hub and wheel from parting company with the rest of the tractor!
