I have Continental Super Contact 195/65/R15 on the car what pressures do you recommend

l run 175/60/15 up front with 26psi, any less and it feels sloppy and rears are 185/60/15 with 29 psi. Maybe this will give you something to play with???

I'm sure everyone runs alternative psi so its what really suits you and you driving style

I thought tyre sizes would have been the same all round on Speedsters ..mind you i think my spare is a 15" will check out size tomorrow and check my pressures.Just had the car serviced and will get a new mot next week .The guy who serviced it said i should try using 99super in it as the carbs are 40 twin choke webbers

Tyres sizes all depend on brakes fitted as disk brakes often widen the track from drum brakes. Ride height also plays a part with the Chesils, as a low ride height will result in the 195/60/15 rubbing the front wing on full lock. Chesil standard ride height is set rather high for my liking but each to there own l suppose.

As for the super unleaded, wouldn't bother, stick to the standard unleaded. Using twin carbs alone doesnt warrant the higher octane.

My turning circle is terrible so never had the problem with tyres scrubbing .I believe you can fit some shims to help the steering turn better and self centre itself at present mine does not do that .

On the subject of super unleaded..... it's now recommended for all our old cars due to its low ethanol content compared to normal unleaded

Ethanol now causing problems to older rubber components / seals / fuel hoses etc.

There is quite a lot of confusing information out there about this issue. Some "super" unleaded petrols have ethanol added to raise the octain ??
The more I read on the web the more confused I get !!! At the mo I am gonna stick with ordinary unleaded, my 1600 with twin 36 dellortos seems to run OK on it.

Agree alot of debates on this. Unless your running a big ass high compression engine stick with normal unleaded.

As for the fuel lines try and use a hard line were possible and if rubber is needed you get what you pay for. You should be checking your fuel lines anyway as a precaution being a kit as they do go up pretty quick.

Your turning circle will be crap as Chesil reduce it by turning out the adjustment bolts either side of the pitman arm to stop wheel and body making contact. Not many speedsters do have a good turning circle, if that make feel in the club Brian

Thanks for all the info as you all know or do now i know nothing as to mechanics of the cars and take my hat of to you guys who built your own ..pitman arms only pitman i know went down the mines Have a great day sunny and dry up here in Bonnie Scotland so might take the car out after i cut the grass with my Honda mower i use regular unleaded in that by the way

The 'standard' Chesil pressures are I believe

18 PSI front
26 PSI rear

That is certainly what i've been using....

That is about the same as i have at present on the front so if i increase the front to 26 will that not make the steering a lot lighter and bit skittish in the wet .the rear is only a couple of psi out so no real change there i would have thought .
