you beat me to it.... I'm planning on going so thought I'd find out a bit more than just what's on the site, who's behind it, will it be any good etc. The site makes it look official, Porsche backed, so I've asked but not yet heard back. Know anything more than what's on the program?

Would be good to get a large number of RS going from the UK; there aren't many events where RS owners turn out in numbers, not even Hedingham.

I know no further details than what's on the website, I simply got the lead from Porsche Post. At this stage I am interested rather than commited, but will decide either way fairly soon.

Unless I'm missing something, they're wanting €1,000 for a driver and passenger for the three days - which doesn't appear to include hotels!

Makes PCGB events look positively cheap!

Thanks Bert, very helpful to have translation skills on hand!

Philip, yes that's very pricey. They've updated the program doc since I first looked and I thought the fee was all inclusive, hotel too. From the current program I guess the fee incl the event lunches, dinner for Fri, Sat, Sun and the driving event on the Sat. But as you say, accommodation is paid individually.

Here's the event program for anyone who hasn't downloaded it yet...

Program - Carrera RS - World Meeting 2012
On the occasion of the 40th birthday of the legendary Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 , which was presented in autumn 1972, the Porsche Club Carrera RS is hosting a World Meeting in 2012. There is already vivid international interest shown in this event.

The 4-day World Meeting will take place from September 13th till 16th, 2012 . Participants are limited to a number of 80 cars. - Carrera RS 2.7 entries will be preferred.

The program is as follows:
Thursday, September 13th Starting at noon, arrival and registration of the participants at the PORSCHE- Museum in Stuttgart. Welcome and visit of the museum. In the evening drive to your hotel accommodation and individual dinner.

Friday, September 14th Guided drive to Castle Langenburg per roadbook. Presentation of the cars at the reserved parking area in front of the automobile museum. Visit of the museum and joint lunch. Subsequently start for an enjoyable drive through the scenic “Hohenlohe” countryside and valley of the Jagst river, guided by roadbook towards the renowned “Auto- und Technik Museum” in Sinsheim.
Parking of the cars at a restricted parking area in front of the museum. Exclusive evening in the museum and dinner on site.

Saturday, September 15th Individual drive to the BOSCH proving grounds at Boxberg. Arrival around 10 a.m. Different tasks are to be fulfilled during the day:
- Tournament of driving skills at different tracks of the proving ground - Driving through the banked highspeed oval (motto for Guiness-Record:
„80 ducktails in the banked curve at speed“) - Lunch catering on site - etc.
Dinner event with winner’s ceremony and some more highlights at the Technik-Museum

Sunday, September 16th Individual drive to the Palace of Ludwigsburg.
- Lineup of the cars inside the courtyard for the “Concours d‘Elegance” (see remarks on page 2)
- Champagne reception with subsequent brunch-buffet, musical entertainment with life music from the seventies
- Judging of the cars by contemporary Porsche employees that helped to developed the Carrera RS 2.7
- Winner’s ceremony and farewell of the participants, after approx. 3 p.m.

If it's well organised by an experienced & committed team then it could be a great few days for RS enthusiasts... especially if they can get 80 2.7RS lined up! 8)

oops, I missed a bit:

Remarks: The perfect base for the event will be the Auto- und Technik Museum Sinsheim that provides numerous additional highlights. The adjacent 4-star „Hotel Sinsheim“ http://www.hotel-sinsheim.de/ is offering a variety of beautiful rooms. They can be booked individually at a special rate for our participants using the password “Carrera RS”. Secure overnight parking will be provided.

The “Concours d’Elegance” is not meant to be one in the classical sense – where utmost cleanliness is required. We don’t want our participants to spend Saturday evening to clean their cars! We want to line up the cars beautifully in the courtyard of the castle to create a perfect atmosphere for the joint voting for the best cars in two categories:

1. Best mostly unrestored car with original patina
2. Best fully restored original car For the voting we want to involve each participant with 1 vote and the Porsche specialists with 2 votes each.

Overall we want to make the meeting an easy going social event, where international Carrera RS owners get a chance to meet each other and where the competition is of less importance.

I agree it has the makings of a proper road trip, and potentially a great meet, however it does seem to be very expensive for what it is...

( obviously a tight a$$ed Brummie)

KS would you be interested in co-driving and claiming against your obviously bottomless expense account?? Place the appropriate smilie here

I'm sure there are enough RS owners on DDK to organise their own '40th' meet / drive ;) ..... at I'm sure a fraction of the cost of this 'worldwide' one

Don't think we'd quite manage 80 RS' on the banking at Millbrook (or Brooklands come to think of it)

Then again, wouldn't a DDK national meet be more interesting than an RS meet in Germany....... :?:

Aber natuerlich. But the thing with a world event is you mix with the glitterati, the textbook experts and some old helmuts from the factory. You do it for the "have/ I can" rather than the must, no?

All very good points Bert, and of course an event in Yorkshire would be for the "eee/ bah and gum" naturlich yah?

In all seriousness, Barrie's photos of a 70's event do seem a lot more enjoyable than having people pick over my car and say what isn't correct (because of course they would be the experts, wouldn't they?)

The road trip back to the factory is always a wonderful thing though :?

Why don't we do something in the UK along the lines of those old PCGB events we are being nostalgic about? Small (and informal) can be beautiful. I've owned my 2.7RS for 10 years and can't remember there being a UK gathering during that period.
