Just as a matter of interest, is it possible to build and make roadworthy, a speedster rep for 16k these days ?

Mike, I would say its still possible to do it for less than 16K depending on wether you are doing the work yourself, and depending on what kit you buy.

If you dont mind taking on someones abandoned project, there are bargains to be had. (although you could have to put a lot of time in sorting out F£&$ ups).

If you have to pay someone to do the build then I would say it is very unlikely to get it under 16K. (unless you have it done somewhere like Eastern Europe).

When I built, mine I managed to keep costs down by sourcing parts myself, either from ebay, VW clubs or Replica clubs, there are loads of websites out there. A lot depends on how much of a hurry you are in !!

mines cost me well over £24k and its not finished yet! Then again mostly new parts have been used and a couple of robbin gits that did work for me very poorly.

Soon be seeing it once the interior is finished.

I was interested in that car some time back ,I have to say there are loads for sale mine included which is not the cheapest has to be said but IMO one of the best around for detail and finish willing to talk price if some one is genuinely interested ,the fact it has won so many award is a testament to the build quality .The only reason i am looking to sell is i have too many cars at present and would like to buy an original 356 or 911/912 so looking to sell at least one Porsche's to fund it .

I after agree with Steve it could be done still, a self build for 16k but it would be the lower end of the build spec. Ask yourself what spec you would be wanting. The options go on and on but so does the build price. Are you thinking of building as a keeper or to sell?? There's a Martin & Walker body on EBay at the moment. Been up for sale a while so they may drop the price to get rid. Here's the number. 180689325958

Part builds don't come up very often. Though you may spend more time and money putting someones elses f**k-ups right. Unless you get lucky and find a good part build that requires no putting right but the reality is more chance of winning the Lotto. As us being human we all have different build standards.

Yes this was mine, then to Mick and then to Helen I think. I had Darren at Aircooled Performance (on James' recommendation) put a 'warm' motor in after the original gave up the ghost. I also sourced a new set of steelies for her.

Could you build this car for 16k? Not a chance.

The trim is all original Porsche and the finish is to a very high standard. Having owned three Speedsters including one RHD this Apal is closest to the real thing than any I've come across - not sure what condition it's in now but when it left mine then Mick's care it was in excellent fettle and Helen always lavished love on her motors

Peach of a car, biggest drawback (for me) were the incessant numbers of people who wanted to talk to me about it every time I stopped even at traffic lights(!), thus interfering with the driving pleasure.

I fully agree, If you are looking at using original porsche parts, having a professional paint job, and paying for labour, etc etc, then there is not much chance of comming in at under £20K.

This is a stunning car and a real bargain.

However, I still stick by my previous post, it is possible to build a speedster replica for less than 16K. Obviously not to the same spec, and only if you put all of the work in yourself (and call in a few favours from mates).

Add this to it 190622444296 and youve got the basics for under £5000. Add loads of nights and weekends in the garage, another 10K, the odd barney with the missus, (for always being in the garage), blood, sweat and lots of tears, and youve got yourself a speedster.

You thinking of putting in a bid then Steve as your thinking of putting another together???

Rich, I'm still in the contemplating stage at the moment, would like to build another one but put off by the IVA, and current job security. If I do it I will probably use a 1303 as a base, and I'd do it as a long term project.

Think that the M and W body and the shortened chassis would be a good start for someone though !!
