White spirit is so old school.
Blood for the win :)
Whilst it is a way of checking the seal, I was actually checking the head volume so I can work out the compression ratio. And whilst quite a bit of blood has been spilt during this build, it’s actually Jizer that has benn used in this instance 🤣

In 1965 two R4s with four women started from Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia, then drove up through Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil (including Mato Grosso in the heart of the Amazon), Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, through Mexico, on through the U.S. and Canada finishing in Anchorage, Alaska.
After choosing and preparing the Renaults, the four women attended a three week programme in the RNUR workshops (Regie Nationale des Usines Renault) in order to familiarise themselves with the maintenance of their R4s - since they would need to be mechanics too.
After four and a half months, on Friday, October 29th, the four girls and both cars reached Anchorage after a trip of ~ 40,000 km.

I always loved the fact the name of the team was a play on the nickname for the R4, 'Quatrelle'...

Just finished my 1949 Humber bicycle.
From the above shot, my first HotRod was a Ford E93A Pop, and a few years later I had a stock Austin Somerset, big brother to the delightful Dorset. Never seen a blue one before.
