If you haven't got 2nd gear by the time the lights go green, then you've made a bad start.

Bentley 4.5 LitreAlex Postan wrote:But is it a Bentley or is it a Peterson?
Ordered through Jack Barclays by first owner John Mavrogordato, chassis HF 3195 passed its final factory test on 14th March 1928. Originally supplied with a long bonnet and staggered screen, Bentley records show that the radiator was chromed and Lucas P100 headlights fitted in late 1929. Largely unchanged since its return to the factory in 1929, this 4 ½ Litre Bentley has a well documented and continuous history from new.
Certainly wouldn't say no to a Peterson or a Racing Green version though. Cannot afford either, either.

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I went to look at a 4200GT once. The bloke wanted £18k. When I added up the bills for bits that had fallen off it in the last 2 years he'd spent £14k.
I briefly considered that he'd now fixed everything and it could make a reliable buy, before taking to my heels like a ginger Linford Christie.

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
reliability is the main worry, esp when you look at parts prices!
i remember reading something about how the 4200 had much better reliability since they switched to a ferrari drive train. i think that says it all really!
i think i'd actually rather have an m5 touring, an old 911, another house, and some peace of mind

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I have to agree, Car did a road test between the 8C and Gran Turismo and 458 I think the new price difference makes the Gran Turismo good value, and with depreciation etc and a Ferrari engine it maybe getting interesting and possibly under £20k. The sound is amazing.smallspeed wrote:that 8c makes an incredible noise, and looks really nice, but whenever i've seen one i can't help thinking i'd rather have a maserati 4200 gt and a house
I have just taken the best bits from a few Alfas, an 1800 DOHC Alfetta engine, 3 litre Alfa rockercover, Lusso 166 Momo leather seats, and going to turn the engine into a display piece, serving plate out of the rocker cover, and deskchairs with the Momo seats

Me too. Classic Alfa's as well as everday 3.0 V6 164 ( what a bargain that was and never caused me any problems in 5 years ownership )Jasper wrote:

I've recently converted my kitchen display cabinet to remind me of some of my recent classics which I've managed to find in model form
in the correct colours. I have also started a collection of racy Alfa's in 1/43 size.
These are just 3.5 inches long and my favourites are the early Italian BBR models. The fine detailing is amazing.
Just aquired this on the bay from Italy.
BBR 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B
BBR 1964 Alfa Romeo TZ

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
this was always my favourite shape alfa.. there's a guy in leicester who has one, not quite as stripped as this, but minus bumpers, fitted with some sporty period bits, and the obligatory cloverleaf decal

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I was quite taken with a '49 6C Super Sport at the Revival auction in 2010. All the interior switches appeared to be made from Bakerlite
Quite a stylish car and from 1949...
A little rich for my pockets though.
