Final steps

getting quite excited now - (ex) Kev goes off to Gary for some final fettling tomorrow:
Interior to be redone and heated seat pads fitted
Windscreen to be fitted and a new shiny frame
Wipers and wiper motor
Side windows
Roof
I regard this as the final major step (albeit I think I needs a new gearbox
) and the exhaust which will be made by longlife one the car is back. This will polish off the car quite nicely I think.
Finally decided on colours and design but will save the details for the returned and completed item.
I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing the end result

Regarding the gearbox....
The syncros are probably gone based on your previous post but you might want to try using a stock gearlever first. The short shift empi lever doesn't help if the gearbox is a bit crunchy and their quality can be a bit variable too.
Luckily the syncro parts are pretty cheap (esp compared to 911) if that job needs doing.
Is the gearbox a swing-axle or IRS? If it is IRS and has more significant problems (ie you need another one), look out for a Type3 gearbox. They are easily converted to fit, have the desirable high ratios and are typically cheaper than a 1303S box to buy.

its a swing axle. I assume the type 3 doesnt fit this then
Was thinking maybe a GT box....i am using an EMPI shifter. As its leaking like a sieve theres a guy close to me that will have a look and we can go from there.
No idea on timescales but will have a chat to Gary in next couple of days about this. Not in a rush tbh so whenever.

how are you getting it to Gary's? Are you driving it there or trailering it?

Swing axle boxes are fairly plentiful so less difficult to find than an IRS box (late type3 is IRS).
However, the high ratio GT boxes are also pretty rare. You could just get the current box freshened up and get a GT ratio upgrade later on if you feel the need.
Either that or cough up for an exchange gearbox with the higher ratios (available from the usual sources). You pays your £££
and takes your pick.

He sent a guy down to collect it - taking time off (no ££££s) and with a leaky box - didnt want to risk it

cool glad you are getting on well with it. Likewise - except for the vague steering, enjoying the drive!
Will try to sort then once its back and whacked on a few miles.
Still not sure what to do with my fuel filler cap - currently got an aero cap on from the IVA. It doesn't go at all!!! Thinking about a Monza or Aston Cap - trouble is a can't find any pipe suitable thats also flexible. Might pop down to the Exeter show next month and have a look down there for something.

I'm still lurking. Taking it for the test on Saturday. Couple of late nights ahead....
