WHO TO TRUST?
After several months of research pending my 911 restoration i've received a fair bit of conflicting information and advice.
Being a DDK newbie the question is:
Whose replies to posts should you really trust, who are the fountains of all knowledge, the genuine Oracles who REALLY know early 911s?
Don't be afraid to mention yourself!
Cheers,
Darren

This conflicting information of which you speak, it can happen.
Best bet is to be a bit more specific, prehaps if you were to list particular areas of information conflictation we could be a bit more helpful.
Regards, Mike.

And there was me thinking you guys were probably some of the best.....
Actually I wasn't referring to DDK as I've only just started using it.
Now that I am using the forum though and hoping to absorb as much prime information as I can, I need to be sure -
Who are the real 911 anoraks (in a good way of course), the people that when they answer a posted query there's no doubting the answer, the seasoned DDKers that just know EVERYTHING?
Don't be shy now!

you should mostly get the correct answers to any tech / spec / originallity questions on here ... there is a huge broad knowledge base amongst DDK'ers .... no one individual is the all seeing expert

Personaly speaking " I know nothing " but am "always learning" Seriously there is some great individual and business based knowledge here and without it my project wouldn't be anything close to its even moderate standard by now.
thanks all

This IS the place to get practical info.
Ask the question in a precise clear way, get several answers and there will be a common denominator answer in the replies.
You will see this and then can act on it.
I have learnt so much from the people on here, but also back it up with books such as Bruce Anderson's massive '911 and its details' which is a great source.
I've spent 22 years with my early 911 hot rod in restoration and tuning, but still learn something every day on here.
Follow the restoration and tech tips section very carefully and the info pours out of the screen!
Also, as your projects get to rock bottom, DDK will pick you right back up! (I speak from in-depth experience)

I agree, and certainly as far as DDK is concerned, it would be highly unusual to get duff info, even if you may get a range of (valid) suggestions to get to the route of a problem.911hillclimber wrote:

Bottom line is that DDK is a pretty respected souce I think. It's also quite tight-knit (in a good way) so that many of us have known each other, travelled to events and been through all sorts of vehiclular clamities and puzzles. As a result any replies are usually based on hard, hands-on experience.
Finally, many of us have travelled through exactly the same journey as you're about to embark on, starting out as Porsche novices, and having our metaphorical hands held by DDK.
Ask away!

Unable to locate the '911 and its details' book by Bruce Anderson (only Performance Handbook) - any ideas, is it still in print?911hillclimber wrote:This IS the place to get practical info.
