Thinking of fitting and wondered if anyone's bothered fitting a fire extinguisher, if so where's the best place to fit it??

Wherever you can get to it quick, under the dash, top of the tunnel, behind the passenger seat. Mine`s under the passenger seat.

Id fit behind passenger seat, sort of out of sight but still to hand when the panic sets in!

Ok but what about the ones that you plumb into the engine bay with sensors that trigger the extinguisher off in the case of an engine fire which these cars seem to suffer with. ( carb fire)

I`ve driven a Beetle for 25 years, and a Speedster for 10, and never had a problem, touch wood. Preventative maintenance, regularily check fuel lines, don`t use glass filters, and fix oil leaks. You`ll still need a hand fire extinguisher, because you can`t guarantee it will be an engine fire.

There`s been a bit about fire and extinguishers over on the 356 registry recently. the bit that caught my eye was to clip an extinguisher to the steering column. I thought you`d probably knock it with your knees but after having a look, it seems like a good idea. Certainly is handy down there.

Halon`s not available over here, I think the nearest thing we have is the Lifeline Zero 360.

whats wrong with glass filters??

in my 911 I use a brey-haus mount under the front of the passenger seat. Neatly tucked away but still easy to get to if needed

Got 2 both behind each seat on floor

If they knock against anything they break, unlike plastic ones, which only melt- if you`re stupid enough to put them near something hot.

I have a 1kg Dry Powder ABC rated fitted between the seats I did notice a post about glass petrol filters ,I have one fitted should I replace it ??

I think the best idea is to check you are well insured. Once these cars set on fire get out your barbeque fork and cook your sausages.
