Its always where to put the radiator where it can cool properly that would be a problem on a speedster, its ok on a camper such as was the jig that they had there yesterday as there is a lot more room underneath to mount them but on a speedster it would be more difficult?

That said it can be done (check out Ricola.com) and there is a black one in burntwood with subaru power.

Defo cheaper than rebuilding, very popular conversion on the Vdub scene. Good value for money too at 5K, does that include exhaust and gearbox steve?? and what box do they use??, would need to spend ££££'s on a vw box to handle that power.

What BHP is it ? there is a nice 911 engine on ebay 200 BHP at the same cost ,would it fit straight on to beele g,box ?

The chap at the show said for £5k they would do all that was needed. engine, gearbox fuel tank radiator, exhaust , fuel injection the lot. I think that there ways room for haggling too. I would haggle anyway. Everyone wants to haggle with me when I quote for jobs. The 2.5i was about 200bhp & the 2.0i was about 150bhp. Might be a bit scary in a car that bits drop off when you drive it or is it just mine

I found out an old copy of Total VW with an article on a Subaru engined 356 replica. They said the biggest problem they had was lowering the back end enough for it to sit right. A lot of these in galleries look a little too high.

Radiator normally goes on top of the engine right behind the back seat

Tempting.... but I have decided just to put upgrades on my 1600. I just need some advice what carbs etc to go for. As for the subaru engine, that will go in my next speedster when I get round to building one

Presume you got a single carb then?? choices are Webber or Delorto carbs for the vw engine. Go for new and not the second hand unit's always for sale unless you know they've on done little milage.

I've got a single twin carb but i was thinking of having a pair of twins. My next job should be my oil leak, but I haven't got any idea how much it should cost me. I dont have agreat deal of undercover room to do the job or the tools / skill / etc
open to ideas!
