CLM disaster!

Post by Bootsy »

Been using my yellow car a fair bit this week to check all is ok.

Out for a drive this afternoon, put my foot down and it died on me. Oil pressure dropped.

Engine ticking over but not registering any pressure when doing so and won't fire. Now waiting for the AA

Got to be at my daughters drama performance atthe local theatre at 4 so all in all a bit of a day.

I suppose it's better to happen now than in France.

Guess the 993 will be coming instead but won't be able to come into infield parking or do track laps I think?

Bugger!

Plan is to get it recovered to a garage and see what can be done tomorrow.

Tried it again and turnover no problem but won't fire and no oil pressure registering as I turn it over. Any ideas anyone?

Sorry to here this Bootsy :(

Sounds like an electrical failure (other than the starter circuit)

Maybe the ignition switch?

Is the fuel pumping running?

I'm starting to think electrical now but why would the oil pressure gauze be showing nothing when turning over?

Fuel pump seems to be ok

Now arranged for it to recovered to my mates garage this evening and I'll be down there to
Tomorrow to see if it can be fixed!

Fingers crossed.

Any pointers on possible checks appreciated

Thanks

If the oil pressure sender is powered from the same circuits as the ignition system then it wouldn't register.

Hopefully something simple! Are all the fuses intact?

Alternator failure? Or lead from alternator to battery...

The lead from the alternator to the battery (A+ lead) came off my Beetle. Engine lost power, oil pressure an temp gauges went haywire... Engine stopped and would turn over on battery but wouldn't fire as ignition circuit not getting enough power to power the CDI.

Get the AA man to check continuity between alternator and starter/battery terminal.

I'm thinking the distributor, the cap or associated wiring/components.

There you go, just about every base covered, but we are all thinking electrical

Hope you find it is simple and quickly fixable. Good luck

Regards
Mike
