Being slow off the mark Sarah & I hadn't booked a ferry until after I submitted the camping booking on line. 'Plenty of time' I thought !! It's still 2009 after all !!
Checked out the suggested Portsmouth Caen return option suggested on another post but only Premier cabins are available now on the outward journey so cost is £505 which for a cross Channel return ferry sounds vaguely absurd (This is with just std seating for the return journey). There are reclining seats for £202 but that sounds like sleeping on a Plane, which has never been my strong point. £303 extra for a one way cabin to Caen is some premium !!!

We have no desire to travel on our own if we don't have to, so if anyone else is interested then we have now booked the following alternative. Cost is only £185 with fast ferries both ways and should get us to LeMans only a few hours later then the main group. Would be pleased if anyone wanted to join us. Ld lines are showing a thurs/tues fare for a car and and two passengers for 78 quid. Its newhaven/dieppe.

Hi Dave,
We are already booked on the Cherborg route shown and was looking to see if any other DDk'ers were interested in joining us.
One of the intents with this route was that it only meant 3 days away from work (Thur-Monday) even if you live some way away from the south coast like us up in Cheshire.

I've just had notification from Brittany Ferries that the return sailing at 17.00 from Cherbourg has been changed to 19.45. This would not arrive in Portsmouth until 21.45 which would mean we wouldn't get home until 2.30-3.00 in the morning. Not practical given Sarah and I need to be back at work on Tuesday 13th July.
We have therefore changed our return sailing to 12.15 from Cherbourg.
With a 3hr 20min drive from LeMans this means an 8-8.30 start from LeMans.

Doesn't sound like anyone else has decided to go with this option based on the replies, but just thought I better post this further detail just in case.

Hi Tim, are you doing this route ? or what's the idea of the bump ?

In case any of you did end up booking this, I'm on the Portsmouth-Cherbourg crossing around 4pm Thursday, staying in Cherbourg Thurs night and driving to CLM fri am. Anyone else doing this?
