I've been looking at the options for next year and the tunnel is back up the top of the list

£87 return and even with the extra miles French side it comes in cheaper than the other options. ...and those French miles are SO easy!

Last time I went Newhaven-Dieppe ferry , but the crossings out and return are much later for 2010 and I really want to get to Le Mans at a decent time of day to set up camp, like early afternoon on Thursday... and also get home some time before Tuesday!

So I'm thinking:

Nice early start

to catch the 7:00am tunnel, should be at Le Mans by lunch

Hotel in Rouen Sunday night (already booked!)

Then a 11am (roughly) tunnel back Monday morning.

I've booked the Eurotunnel back on the Monday at 2.50pm .
I think it cost me £69.

I had bit of a change of plan having decided I can't be arsed with all night driving or early mornings, so this is the new plan! It means I have to sacrifice another half day of holiday, but I have a longer Le Mans trip

This 'weekend away' is turning into a week

After some consideration the idea of getting to a French hotel on the Wednesday night was tempting so I've booked the following:

Channel Tunnel - Wednesday 7th July 14:20 Departure - Arrive Calais 15:55

Channel Tunnel - Monday 12th July 12:50 Departure - Arrive Folkstone 12:25

Is it worth waiting to see what kind of package the ticket organisers come up with? My preferred option is also out on the tunnel either Wed or Thurs AM early.

I find these 'packages' are never a deal, they are just easier.

If you wait too long to book an trip yourself you will find the Rouen hotels are full

This might be useful for someone . . . .

I did consider a stop off on the way down and came acorss the Hôtel L'Ecrin in Honfleur (which I understand is pretty town and about half way).

Parking looked particulary good but not particlury cheap.

Right well, I'm planning on getting the tunnel before 8am on Thursday and driving to LeMans in one go. Unfortunately I've found you have to go seriously early around the M25 or its just dire.

I'm thinking its best to organise tunnel tickets now while they are still cheap.

So anyone got any thoughts on a DDK convoy? Did most people stop in Rouen in 08?

I'm on the 07:50 train on the 8th (Thursday), so won't be able to make Sees in time (I'll be there mid afteroon, you'll be there mid morning). No doubt the Rouen crew will be able to make Sees in time.

I am on the 07:50 train on the Friday Morning also. We may have a small convoy of cars heading in the same direction.
