912 head difference

Post by 58herbie »

Hello,

Whilst stripping my 68/69 engine down for top end overhaul i have found one head has bolt's in the fins over the exhaust valves on both sides and the other doesn't. The one that has the bolts also has no part number is this a repro head?? what are the threaded holes with bolts in for a temp gauge etc?

Cheers

Hi Jon,

Any chance of some photos, not too sure exactly which area you are talking about?

According to the maestro's ABC of 356 912 engines it looks like you might have an earlier head (the one without bolts).

I think! There isn't actually a head like yours listed in there though. So it might have been a replacement head - there were 2 types of replacements available, one for early engines and one for the later engines

I think the head with threaded holes is a 1968 us 1year only
head and the holes is for a smog control airpump.should have a part number though.
