Cool rain beading magic or pricey smeary gubbins?

I'm currently finding it to be the second of the two, but I suspect I am doing something wrong, despite 'applying in a circular motion..blah blah'

Anyone help? Any tips on getting it right? Maybe its not so good in low temperature and salt..

I only started using rain-x @ CLM '08 after my wipers started sounding dodgy on the journey down through all the rain ... Mike Usiskin recommended it too me & lent me some

Since then i've used on teh 911 & I have been really pleased...... no probs with smearing etc. I do make sure I use a good screen cleaner 1st & then apply a couple of coats of rain-x. I do this after before every big journey & / or after each time I wash teh car. Not had a problem with smearing.

No experience of using it on salt covered roads though

Only time I have probs with smearing is if my wiper blades need replacing or if I have dirty / oil film on teh windscreen

Never had any problems, always use it on my cars.

Their 'anti-mist' product is not so good (for the inside). Works for a very short while only I've found.

FYI - Costco or Wilkinsons seem to be cheapest place to buy Rain-x.

Not being rude , but only really comes into its own over 60 mph , i find u barely need wipers at all then ...................

I actually had the guys from Rain-X apply it to one of my cars so I presume it was done right! It worked for the first time it rained and then went all smeary and was so bad that I cleaned it all off. But then I know other people who haven't had that problem and swear by it. On the flip side, I use the anti-fog treatment on the inside of the 912 and have never had any problems at all!

Used it on the outside to great effect on the P car.
Used the anti-mist on the inside on the Landy which is pants.

Hmm, I suspect it is good in proper big motorway raindrops and less good in grimey traffic and 'smirr'. I have been trying it on our Merc..maybe I'll give the screen a quick do with some marine clean and try again.

I used the antimist on the 911 ages ago, and found half an inch of lowered window infinitely more effective..

as with Vic, I only really find a benefit when at speed

I would say brilliant.

Used on my '12 and worked fine for a while in heavy rain. Cr@p when it's misty. But it did see me through times when I problems with the wipers.

Put it on the '24 (that's constantly doing over 60!) and it turned out to be smeary cr@p that I can't see through.

All done nice and proppa like! bought the screen cleaner to really clean the screen first then as the bottle told me.

I would get new wiper blades first and try and keep your screen clean with 'skoosher' soap.

I use rain x on my daily driver and it works really well, even at low speeds the rain kind of beads up so visibility is still good, and then at speed its really good.

I also use the anti-fog stuff. first applied it about a a year ago and didnt touch it til about a couple of months ago when i cleaned it all off. the next day i was all misted up in the morning so i reapplied and its been fine ever since. I do apply 2 coats though, dont know if that makes a big difference or not...

Thats the first thing I do on a 911: clean the windows AND the wipers with diluted vinager. Then I dry the windscreen and put rain x on there. Doing long distance motorway driving, it "aides" the challenged windscreen wipers I find when there is loads of rain.

When there is loads of grime and salt, it doesnt have such a pronounced effect as it only works with loads of water. In those conditions, you are using loads of windscreen washer and then your rain-x isn't working.

I use the anti-fog treatment as well, but that needs a weekly application- but I still lower my window.

Rain-X is brilliant stuff and I have to agree with previously mentioned comments that it only works well at speed in heavy rain for me.

Last year I was on a local dual carriageway (A46) in heavy rain/sleet and was clearing my screen by speeding up, if I slowed down then it started beading on the screen, more right foot and a clear screen again. All without using wipers. Cool! Other traffic probably thought I was nuts being out in an old car without using his wipers in such weather.

I think it's a brilliant product for oldtimers and modern cars. On motorway speeds I don't use my windscreen wipers even in heavy rain.
It really does need 'polishing' until dry though when you apply it otherwise it can be smeary.
