NB. Can a techie explain to me (in words of one syllabub) why that picture is white drawn on black here but black drawn on white in the original file on my 'puter ?

I think it's a Photostat copy. The camera prints directly to paper which is then wet developed, just like film, so you get a negative (or reversed).

Didn't know they were still in use but they were often required for legal reasons - before photo copiers - because there was no human manipulation of the image.

Thanks Bob. But what is strange is that when I open the file on my PC it is black on white but the same file posted via Tinypics comes up as above.
