Service station at the same dealership (1960):

Iconic 'hanging showroom':

Building (and hanging showroom) still exists:

(but it now is a fitness gym... Nobody knows anymore that it once was the biggest Porsche and VW Dealership in the world)

Well...

Here is a trip down memory lane:

Image

'mr Porsche' Ben Pon died September 30th (at the age of 82). His father was the first official international dealer/importer of Porsche in 1949 and he took over the business later. He made Porsche in the Netherlands what it is today...

He is a 'Porsche Icon'. In the picture above is another Icon: Johan Cruyff. Next to Cruyff is Ben Pon and the location where Cruyff got his car is Amsterdam Overtoom (the 'fishtank' showroom can be seen behind them)...

The best quote from Cruyff that I know is:

When I ask you 'show me what you can' and you show me, I also know what you cannot do...

One of my favourite Arsenal programmes is from the Dennis Bergkamp Testimonial, the first game at the Emirates Stadium on the 22nd July 2006 with Marco van Basten and Johan Cruijff on the team sheet.....

....they both came on the pitch in the second half 8)

I was there! :)
