as much as I lothe Ebay with the love of a 20stone ape being more attactive for the night than using Ebay. I did find the lure of a tig welder for under a £100 worth a punt even if the Post Office lost it for a week ( I do always have probs with Ebay )

So just got to collect my gas bottle and I will be able to do the body work on the 356. Not the best bit of kit but for the money as long as it works then it's going to be a good result. Anyway it's Barry's fault for showing me tig welders

I'm going to be interested to see how a sub £100 TIG works: probably perfectly.

Mind you if it is good, that would be useful to know as the same firm do AC/DC ones as well.

Yes they do and again until it's up and running it's a open question, I have asked my mate who runs www.migtigarc.co.uk to pop round and have a look... It's German made ( NOT!! ) it does give the impression it's German but it's about as German as the Tesco's German Beer I had this weekend!! It passed though Germany from China!!

But will see what's it's capabale of. Collecting gas on Friday

I do think they bid them up.. AS the bidding is private and I was winning for days at £1

and this private bidder came in at £50 then £60 £70 £80 and stopped hence I got it for £83 cheapest so far..

As long as it works for the 356 I will sell it afterwards..

Hi Mark, I'm pretty sure they are known as electrodes.

You will need to measure what collets (holders) came with the kit: they can go upwards from 1.0 mm usually. Not sure what size mine are .... hang on, I'll go and have a look ....

looks as though I'm using 1.5mm, give or take.

When they arrived, they are cut square. You have to grind them to a point (on a DC machine anyway): do both ends, and then if you scab the first end up (by touching the work during welding), you can quickly swap the ends round and carry on.

Just be aware that some of these electrodes are slightly radio-active. Grind them in fairly well ventilated areas, or at least try not to breath / touch any dust.

One thing: is this a scratch start, or will it self-start the weld (like mine)?
