Cleaning throttle bodies ?

Post by declang »

What is the best stuff to use for cleaning throttle bodies ?

Mine have a bit of carbon build up so I need to give them a good scrub.
Is there something better than carb/brake cleaner ?

I'm thinking of a good soak in a bucket of diesel & then scrub with carb/brake cleaner ?

Reading on pelican, the berryman chemdip stuff is good, but cant get hold of that over here :(

This is how bad they are. I have them off now, but forgot to take pics.

I immersed my carbs in cheap cellulose thinners (gun wash) that I bought from a paint shop. I left them in for a while then cleaned them up with a tooth brush. It seemed to make a good job. Note, the carb cleaner you buy is just thinners at an elevated price.

Also on Webers , it's well worth checking for butterfly spindle play while they're apart. If there is play, it's an easy fix by replacing the PTFE (Teflon) bushes.

Cheers,

Never knew that about carb cleaner !

I've managed to get them clean enough using the brake/carb cleaner from hellfrauds & a toothbrush.
