DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi all,

I've been lurking for about 3 years. I've finally plucked up the courage to register and post.

In a moment of utter madness and through very rose tinted glasses I bought a 356 that is in pieces.

Good luck with the 356 project - you werent joking when you said in pieces, is the front clip salvagable , hows the rest of it? I do know the feeling about rose tinted glasses though... I keep telling myself "one day, one day" looking forward to some updates

welcome. took mine on justover a year ago and hopefully within the next week or two & approx £30k later i will at last get around to driving it .


its worth it to know you have a fully restored car. so many "restored" cars we looked at were in need of a awful lot of money spending on them

well to cut a long story short.

i had all the body work and painting done by Lee Peacock at Autoclassica, nr knaresborough.

interior done by David Nunn at Southbound trimmers, (Nr Bournmouth ?)


and everything else (prettymuch) done by Lee and Paul at PR Services, Billericay.

Southbound are Nr Andover, on the map WEST of Newbury which is WEST of London


and Helen I keep spelling Bournemouth wrong ( I now remember it as B our ne( w ) mouth

Great stuff! An open car so an even better start for a ground up resto.

What is it? Whats the story behind it?

The car is a 1960 Roadster.

I bought it after searching for ages for one that I could afford.
I came close to buying two cars around July last year that looked great superficially but had 101 things wrong with them when I paid someone to inspect them.
There was a nice cabrio for sale on PR's website which used to be a German police car, but it dissapeared after the Christmas break.

I then decided that if I'm going to sink a lot of cash I may as well get one that's warts and all and then get it fixed, rather than buy one that looks good and then find that it needs doing from scratch.

In the short term it will cost me a fair bit to get it up and running but hopefully in the long term I'll be a happy bunny. And it's better to have the cash sitting in the car than in a pension

I'll post some more photo's of the car and it's body panels in a bit.
The car isn't going to be started on until after the summer, so I'll try and do an update as and when things get moving.


.....................in the meantime I went and picked up my new baby(four wheeled) with one of my other babies(a real life one, as opposed to a car)

I'll try and post more details of the journey to this point when I find the camera and the cd's that I've packed away

That's going to be a fantastic looking roadster when you've finished and the Targa looks nice too. Welcome to the club.

A year and a half of good investment by the looks of it!

once I got over the fact that it's going to be ready when it's going to be ready. It's actually been a really enjoyable journey...so far.

I think the hard work was all at the start, trying to work out what the car should look like and whether to stick with stock/original or not.
