Question for the Watchies:

Teague Jnr turns 18 at end if December and a pressie possibility is a decent watch. He's all action, grease monkey, skier, cyclist etc. My eye was drawn to the Elliot Brown Holton
(https://elliotbrownwatches.com/products ... bber-strap) reviewed (sponsored content?) in the latest Octane....which we were reading as he's in it too...
We are wondering about offering him something of this ilk.....solid, likeable, cool, tough, but not so rare/pricey/delicate that he has to be precious about it....something that can be worn all the time..automatic is desirable
I like vintage obscure Swiss sports watches (as does he) but I guess swimming is a no....and they're uneconomical to fix, as we have learned with Gridgways old chrono.
So i'd welcome your views, recommendations for other things to consider, other makers to look at and wise words about vintage off-trend brand Swiss stuff.....and of course pictures of suggestions, offers etc. W

Good shout James.

Sinn make some wonderful watches. Great heritage and the build quality is very good.

Might be able to find a cheaper second hand watch which is his ‘birth year’ so a 2005?

My 3 children all got birth year watches for their 18th (2000/2002/2005)

By nephew is 21 and just getting into watches … I’ve just helped him buy a lovely Seiko gmt automatic. I think seiko are great starter watches and one of the very few manufacturers who manufacture everything themselves

Loving the Fortis, the Cwc is too plain, I'm certain he'd see it as an old man's watch....

What about Hamilton watches? One to look at or one to avoid? W

.

I had a (late '60's) Hamilton Chrono-matic 'Paul Newman' watch - bought from Thomas (Bootsy) several years ago. I'm not really a watch person but it was lovely thing which I wish I hadn't sold ...

They are ok. I'd look at secondhand Damasko also, used to love their watches.

In fact google German brands. There are some great tool watch makers making watches under £1k secondhand and maybe new.
