Hi,

Could anyone offer a 911 newbie any thoughts on this one?

Seems a little overpriced to me although if it is all completely original I guess I may be wrong about that. Odd that it's got GRP wings though - is that common?

Also, can anyone fill me in on the differences between a T and a T Lux?

Any advice much appreciated.

can't give you much more advice other than it certainly sounds overpriced especially with GRP wings, take a look in the for sale section here for comparisons.

Hi, it does seem a bit expensive, but it's impossible to tell from pictures and descriptions.

GRP wings are a bit odd, not uncommon as such, but it's normally done simply to save money as the original wings are so expensive.

Having said that normally by the time you have reworked the GRP wings to fit properly and have a good surface finish you may as well have paid the money for the steel ones

The 'lux' probably refers to the 'S' trim pack. It will have the full set of gauges, sill trims, etc. It also has the S front spoiler, so it may also have the 'S' front and rear anti roll bars. Essentially you end up with an 'S' in all but engine and brakes.

Looks a reasonable car, but as always a full inpsection is the way forward!

Got to be worth a look, as at that price it is cheap if as described. The colour should probably be Light Ivory, headrests are missing (?), seal around engine bay shouldn't be there, sill trims missing, which is good as you can will be able to inspect the sills properly. Just make sure that you get someone like peter Morgan to inspect it for you. And take the Recaros for the extra £1500!

I had my targa inspected by Peter Morgan last month, and it is worth it, will cost you around 350.00 Pounds.

Nice car but I think it is way over priced Like Nick I think that the colour should be Light Ivory as "old english white" isn't a Porsche colour. The seats (if they have headrests) are certainly worth the extra.

Dont understand why people think its overpriced when many are saying a proper RHD 911S is undervalued at 60K and is essentially a more powerful version of the same car. The only other correct RHD examples of a 911 that Ive seen recently under £20K look a bit tired or have strange paint jobs. I personally think white and ivory suit the car well and the Recarros finish it off nicely. To think you could own this AND a series 1 and a half E - type Jaguar roadster for £ 60K makes makes me think the price could be very reasonable and certainly worth a second look.

On the face of it, I would be in the 'not over-priced' camp.

I rather suspect though, that when you see the body work it may be a bit ripply. I'm looking at the way the N/S sill flows into the door, and the profile of the bonnet front.

As it's fresh paint, I'd take a magnet, or ask to see photo's of the work at each stage. It would be an easy colour to whack some outer sills on, and do a quick cover-up job on.

Nevertheless, if it checks out with an expert (like Peter), it would have to be a fair price then (IMHO).

Will try and see it this weekend and then see about getting an inspection.

Current owner's only had it 6 months and originally bought it to build an RS Replica, but decided it was too original to do that (now has one on its way over from the US at the moment). So although it was in a messy state with very little history it's had a lot of work to bring it to its current state (which is when they discovered the GRP wings).

No headrests on the seats but has blanking plugs - sounds like they've gone missing at some point I guess.

Sounds like the heat exchangers and brake disks will need replacing in the next couple of years - I'm guessing that's not going to be as cheap as it sounds...

headrests are upto £150 or so for a pair.

Personally I don't think its overpriced if it is a genuine RHD UK car & there is evidence to show the bodywork has been done to an extremely high standard and not 'bodged', although at that price I would expect the correct S sill trim to be included in teh deal, or price negotiated to suit.

Make sure you check all the panel gaps , especially around the doors.


It will all come down to what the actual quality of the resto is as different people have different ideas on what is quality

If the car checks out ok as per description, with that spec, I'd say the price is good, just my 2p worth

Hard to say on the price without knowing more about the history and current condition. It would have to be very good to justify.

It may never have had headrests in the first place. My 2.4S was ordered without headrests. The Recaros have blanking plugs like yours. I keep thinking of getting a pair for safety, but haven't got round to it yet.

How will an additional set of blanking plugs help your safety?....
