I now have a second Durant mirror which I want to put on the RHS of my LHD 911T. Has anyone any thoughts on how to fix it as if it is fitted symmetrically with the LHS one, it is impossible to see anything in it!! Can it be positioned further aft on the door, or is the door double-skinned there making it awkward. Any ideas please.

This is an enduring problem and discussion point on various forums. The factory never fitted 2 Durrant mirrors. The only way is to position the passenger side further back, or change to the rectangular style which were fitted from '73 on in the USA. They are wider and can be fitted symmetrically, giving a nuch better rear view.

Hi I wanted to go down this route ages ago but to honest why spoil that loverly flowing lines on the side that does not have a mirror any way turn your head it's cheaper

I had the same problem when I bought mine it had a pair, the pasenger side is decoration only. While I have it stripped to bare metal I intend to weld the holes and go for just one.

I am after function rather than form - When I drive a LHD car in UK, I find the RHS mirror invaluable, and also fitted an extra on my 914, where it could be fitted symmetrically and give a good view especially when joining motorways etc. Do those that replied drive LHD or RHD here?
Rather than fit two different style mirrors, I would rather have the offside mirror fitted more towards the rear to be visible, but does anyone know of any difficulties in fitting it away from the standard position?

My 912 is LHD and honestly you dont realy need an offside mirror I was into big yanks for a while (cars you know) and in those, yes you need one but the porsche is so compact and visibility is so good ,no need really unless you have problems looking over your shoulder, but thats another story.

I'll tell you what , I just fitted a new Durant mirror I got from Partwerks , and getting a 10mm socket into those holes in the door with the rubber bungs over !! what a old git the rear one was ! There's no need for that surely ?? I still haven't tightened it properly 'cos I never got a socket on it. I only got the old one off by bending the bolt up 'til it broke off , thank heaven no damage to the car. Oh and the bolts are too long to put the bungs on so I'll have to take 'em off again and cut them down a bit. grumble grumble grumble love it really. On a very happy note my new garage has a Relative Humidity of 50%ish compared with my old garage's 70+ so I'm pretty pleased all in all.

Age is a terrible thing - I can't even turn my head as far as the blind spot!! Can anyone lend me a sharp-eyed blonde with a supple neck!! :twisted:

with regard to the ill fitting 10mm bolts why not use socket headed cap screws ("Allen pattern").then use a hex key to tighten.
After all if its inside the door furniture who's going to see it?

I had the same problem of getting at the nuts.

In the end I used an old 10mm open spanner and ground off the shoulders.

It now fits a treat.

I am looking for a replacement Durant mirror for the LHS drivers door.
The glass I have in the current one is broken.

Do you know where I can get new mirror? And how do I fit it?
Am I okay just to replace the glass in the Durant?

I have 2 (later style) Durant mirrors fitted symetrically to my '66. I can't even see the RHS mirror let alone see anything in it...
