Was this actually painted or was it just the normal finnish of the pvc sealer?

hi berny

yes, pretty sure painted, at least on the 2 I've has so far, light grey for sure, I was just wondering if there was a known colour specifiction, not that I am trying for Concours ( ) but I thought I might as well try and get it right

do you have access to a RAL colour chart

RAL 7035 is called Lichtgrau
RAL 7038 is called Achatgrau

thanks

I'm fairly sure the colour was called Dove Grey but I don't have the code for it.

I'm sure Nick (Moss) will point you in the right direction.

I don't know the code. Ferry Man's 2.4S has unpainted grey body sealer, but the original finish was different and harder.

no problem, Pauls picture looks like the paler grey, RAL 7035, but anyways I'll just bring the colour chart with me next time we meet, or carry it in my back pocket, just in case I next spot a 911 somewhere

thanks

Did you ever determine the correct color of the tank?

Can anyone tell me how the Porsche codes are converted into RAL codes. My car for instance is 131 - so Ivory. But I can't seems to find a corresponding color according to the RAL system.

hi steve

in a word..no
when Barry sprayed the tank for mehe used a similar rubarised textured finish to pauls car, think it was a product made by 3M

this has a natural pale grey finish

as Nick says its not quite the same as original, I'm sure my original finish was paler , thicker and tougher

have to say I like the finished article though and as I have 2 coats of POR-15 and 1 coat of POR primer underneath it, durability should not be an issue

as far as RAL codes I'm not sure that there is any link between them and Porsche colours. I just referred to them because they are industry standards and was hoping someone would know

BS codes would be just as appropriate

Is that sprayable sealer Nick, or a stonechip of some kind?

I tried both the Wurth and 3M sprayable sealers and really would say that they were identical. I had the 'other' gun from you though, and it really was hopeless: it took about ten minutes to use a tube, which had implications for the depth of texure that you could achieve: it was always very fine, no matter what you did with air pressure, depth of application or spraying distance :? .

Luckily the situation resolved itself as I managed to let some of the stuff go off in the gun, and I've never used it since.

What 3m product did you use? I used some 3M stuff on mine and it looks the same as Ferry Man's, the one you just posted seems to have more of a glossy appearence.

Dragging this thread from the grave I know, but does anyone have the product code for the appropriate 3M light grey sprayable sealer?

I'm currently stripping and prepping a replacement tank for my car and want (for once!) to make a decent job of it!

Thanks
