Heres one for the trainspotters out there

Should the engine bay be painted in black or body colour on a T6 B??

I've seen pics of both :? - may as well get it right.

My guess is body colour up to the lip where the the decklid sits - then black in bay area :?: :?:

Same question for bonnet area too :?:

The truth is out there, if you know where to look

I think you are right about this. This is indeed the case with my car (356 SC)

My 62 has never been painted and that seems to have body colour all through the engine bay. So I would say body colour. Although it is hard to tell with my car as most of the paint on the engine shelf has all but gone and is now just rust and rot.

Rust and rot - seems like a common thread

Body colour would seem correct to me- at the factory - easier to paint engine bay body colour whilst painting the rest of the car :?: :?:

But black looks very common :?

Anyone else :?: :?:

My '62 is body colour but has the original sound proofing which is black stuck all over it (now peeling off) so this may make some pictures apear black?? :?

Doing some home work and thinking back it must be the body colour..

Because it was the easy way to do the work also my trunk area is the same colour as the car. But I only say I see what you mean when i see cars that have been resto'd and they are satin black....... go with the body colour it looks the best anyway..

I'm thinking go body colour - by the time all the sound deadening is in it'll look black anyway

I agree with the last two posts. But to be sure you could check the forlast issue of the 356 registry magazine. I believe there was a very complete article about an unrestored 356-B with lots of detail pictures.

Looks like blacks got the upper hand at the moment :P

Anyone got the Registry article - I've only just joined - not got a mag yet :(

Weird to think the factory would have gone to the trouble of painting black -

same as- its black.
My paint under the bonnet is black too- and thats def never been touched.
my floor pan looks like it was blue at some point- but me thinks that was actually a metallic hammerite stuff, and not factory applied.
All the 356's I have seem have had black painted insides to the boot and bonnet, with black sound deadening.
