Managed to finally fix the bonnet release on my 71T today. It was always a 2 man operation at the best of times so had to be fixed as it’s rather annoying. My first attempt a week ago resulted in a bonnet which wouldn’t release at all - The pull cable has always worked fine, so I thought the striker part on the bonnet had to be lengthened, when in actual fact it had to be shortened. Half a can of wd40 and alot of fettling and patience finally released it. At this point I also realised the bonnet / front wing panel gap was slightly larger on the left than right so made a slight adjustment to make sure they were equal so the catch assembly would line up. I also filed over the flat part of the end of the striker to make sure there were no sharp edges. The striker was slightly shortened by around 8mm as I thought the spring could have been kinking back and catching so with bated breath I closed the bonnet down… and it released !

Excellent - very satisfying, and quite stressful when you can’t release it

Picked up another bumper for the 964 for a little project that’s gone from brewing in my head to the real life!

Went to Yorkshire Porsche festival in the 964 . Was busy .Some nice early cars that had been directed into the main display area. Some nice 964’s too. Hundreds and hundreds of water cooled which hold no interest for me really . Had enough after about 1 hour and headed off to M&S

( not my car )
