Another Euro Road Trip

We left Cesky Krumlov but not before a walk in the evening and morning when the crowds are thinner. It's a magical place probably ruined by visitors like us. I doubt there is a single place in the centre which has someone living in it permanently. However, without visitors I guess there wouldn't of been money to restore it after it neglect during the Soviet era. We didn't visit a museum and did our own wandering.

The countryside is stunning but I don't like the narrow roads in Czech. The middle of the road isn't cleanly marked and there is a drop if you leave the tarmac.

Once we entered Austria the roads were wider and smoother.

Linz is a bit of an urban concrete jungle compared to Cesky Krumlov. No more sub 3 eur equivalent lattes but 5 eur!

Big travel day tomorrow as we head to Strasbourg. We will probably break it up but I think there will be 7 hours of driving. In retrospect we should of stoped somewhere in-between.

Yesterday, I went to a bike shop and begged some grease and bought some bike oil. I decided to grease the cam on the distributor and put a couple of drops of oil on the mechanism. Looked pretty clean and probably didn't need it. Having Freds CDI means I have a lot less energy going through the points so I'm a lot less dependent on them. Thank you

Then I checked the oil, and discovered, like the last journey I had been over filling?? Need to get better at this. I dropped about 400ml out.

A classical concert last night in Linz.

Today a long day of travel. We left Linz at 07:45 and did get into the place in Strasbourg until 17:30. We stopped for lunch in a pretty town about 60k outside Stuttgart. We didn't want to fight in/out of a large city. We crawled around Stuttgart and then crawled into Strasbourg. We were feeling tired and like we had been on the rack. However, then we got chatting to the lady who let us into the apartment and she had escaped from Iraq by walking (after the Gulf war). Taking 2 years to get to France. Rather humbled us quickly

Ps I keep telling Mrs B the last time I was in Strasbourg was for a weeks exchange programme while at university. Small white lie as I might of been here on my first honeymoon but best not to mention that!

Quite busy in Strasbourg last night. I forgot to say we did almost 400 miles and got about 36mpg. Not bad for an old gal

That town is well worth any journey!
Not sure I could do such a trip as this in my 911, but have with total ease in the Boxster, same mpg too!!

It was great to visit Strasbourg again. I came here in 1993/4? On a week exchange programme in my final year at university. I remember being quite poor and only having £5 spending money for the week. My friends laughed at me but I was stupid enough to be already married and a father of 1. It was an interesting introduction into how theoretical French education was compared to British. We tried to learn Z. A maths/set theory for proving a relationship database had been normalised. I could see it had little practical application. Also my friends were almost single. After a night of dancing two of us ended up sleeping on a couch in someone's front room while the third worked on international relations in the bedroom! It was a good week.

Did I know where my life was going? In many ways it been harder than I expected but also better.

Yesterday we drove for just over 4 hours with a stop at the Bastogne War Memorial and Museum. The most expensive one we have visited. 5 eur to park 27 eur per person to visit the museum. Mrs Bs 2 eur veteran discount was little help. However, once over the shock of the price the museum was interesting with good audio and films. I also spotted our only museum flat four car. The. Information said it was the idea for the Beatle but I think it came from the Beatle?

More importantly it's also part of the final cycling Spring Classic. Know for it many testing climbs. There is a statue of the Cannibal on the route and the new Cannibal has made this race this playground. As we drove to Leige we were happy to be in a car. The hills live up to their reputation.

I was a little disappointed to find the secure parking in the place we are staying is the local supermarket car park! 100s of people will be passing the car

As least in Strasbourg it was under cover and secure. Even if we were many levels up

I think the spring latch has gone again on my door! I was hoping that would be good for another 20 years (not 2-3 years)

Maybe this link will help me get a better spring as the ones stocked by 356 specialist are too short
