ah yes, that'll be mine then.....
have metioned it to a few of the DDKers that meet at the Fairmile but what with all the debate about back dating of original 2.7 Carreras sometimes tending towards keeping the original bumber configuration I thought I'd lie low for a while

must say.......... lovely work by barry :)

WOW Barry - always great to see your work and what youve been up to. Having seen the quality of your work and attention to detail 1st hand these pictures dont do justice

Will be great to see the TR all finished off - looks like youre in the last furlong now. Also I bet you cant wait to start on the 911 project - any firm ideas on colour yet - how about gulf colours?

I found a bit of rust in mine last week down in the hell holes and its rearing its ugly head around the windscreen base. Need to start planning for a proper paint job at some stage...... :toothy8:

As ever, thanks for the comments, always encouraging.

The latest is that the interior colour has been chosen: I won't say until it's installed, suffice to say it was rather the easy option, hopefully tasteful rather than outragous. The order has gone in.

The chrome was dropped off late last week, and the last major order for parts placed. The rebuild kits for the carbs should be here mid-next week. The latest is that the visiting 911 has reached a bit of a tempory stoppage, so in order to make the best of it, the TR has returned to the workshop.

1st job now is to mount the body finally on the chassis. All of the outer panels need to be hung, and then shims placed between the body and chassis to re-create the alignment that was there before the body was removed for painting. After that the outer panels can come off again, ready for waxing, and any paint issues tidied. Looking at the panels again, I might well leave most, as having seen them all together in the sun today, I think I might regret trying to improve them. I did the same on the 911, and ended up back were I started after two further complete resprays.

Once the paint is sorted, the panels can be mounted properly, and the fitting up of the car started. Talking of which, the rebuilt engine is untried as yet, so as soon as the carbs are rebuilt, I'd better give it a try.

Hopefully some new piccys later in the week.

Thanks, Peter.

The body is now bolted down, and the outer panels tried (again) to make sure the body has gone down O.K. One thing you have to be sure of on these is that the body is actually square to the chassis. There're quite a few TR's out there that look fine, until you notice that one wheel is tucked further under a wheelarch than the other. Not very professional, so something to be paranoid about  .

Just about to flat off some of the paint that I'm not happy with: not too much, hopefully will be dealt with by the end of the weekend. Tomorrow I'll get onto the boot and bonnet, that are currently in primer. Really I need to have all of the paint on and mopped by mid-week. The big delivery of parts has now arrived, so there's now nothing to stop the wiring loom, heater dash and windows going in as soon as those bits of paint have hardened off.

I'll post some new pics in a day or so :)

P.S. running a day or so behind as the BM went for it's MoT yesterday, after I spent all of thursday doing rear springs and a particularly nasty brake pipe (had to drop the fuel tank down :( ), and the bloke was incredibly fussy: if I say the actual physical MoT lasted well over an hour  (And that was after a 3/4 hour wait after my booked time, plus admin afterwards, I was there for over 2 1/2 hours) For the first time in years I actually had a failure: one tyre that I had measured as just being O.K., he found one bit that was 1.4mm, and within about 2mm of the centre 3/4. It was so close he had to measure the width of the tyre with a tape measure. Anyway by time I had gone and found somewhere with the same make, model and size of tyre, then gone back for the re-test it was 3/4 through the day. Not to worry, at least the tyres were going to be done anyway.

Not really un update yet, just a moan. Having got the paint where I thought I wanted it, I'm not really happy with it. I don't know whether it was my flatting and plolishing or not, but the 'shape' of the paint (if you like) is a bit shimmery: i.e. looks O.K. but when you move your line of sight left to right, the panels no longer look dead flat.

Perhaps I'm being sad: don't know, either way I'll crack on with the remaining paint (bonnet and boot) and see how the whole thing looks at the end of the week. Hopefully when there are plenty of new bits of chrome everywhere, things will look better  .

In fairness, it looks O.K. in that photo: perhaps I've just over TR'ed myself in the last few days ...

Hey Barry go easy on yourself  It looks fab from here, I think you may have been staring at it too long!

When its all together im sure the whole balance will be better than most could expect. Im sure your finishing is better than how it came out of the factory.

Some restored cars have paint so good it shows up the panels or the fact that they have been sand blasted to hell and back - as for your TR, im sure it will be straighter and shinier than 90% out there!

Just to make you feel better each time i wash mine i get a little more depressed as i see another rust bubble or an old one growing  then i took it out in the rain the other day and jumped out to go to the cash point - coming back to it with the rain beading off the wax in a downpour it actually looked perfect

Thanks, folks: as ever.

I'll plod on and see how it all looks. As Kev says, once all of the twinkly bits are on it'll look better. Currently finishing the prep on the bonnet, boot, and front/rear screen frames.

Stripped the front screen frame of the internal vinyl, only to find that the black internal vinyl was actually a scructural part of the frame  . The rot was well hidden: I almost just masked up the vinyl as well, so just as well I got keen. Anyway, it's all welded back up. What amazed me was when the frame was cut open to get to the rust, it was completely bare metal. Where it hadn't actually rusted, it was shiny silver: amazing for 43 year old steel.

Hopefully will get all of the remaining painted parts into primer later today. :)

I might even get time to cut the grass
