Another ST Project starts !!

Time for an update I think - more progress being made , but still some way to go yet !!

Converted an SC tank to centre fill , using Blau cap sourced from Nick Moss , length of 4 inch exhaust pipe , and Stainless dog bowl from Pets at Home



Fitted Permatune boxes , fuel pump and regulator to engine bay , and ( I hope !) identified sufficient wires to make it all work.



Fitted front cooler and pipes. I had issues with wheel clearance in the rear arch - those 10 inch wheels are a tight fit ! Andy Hornby sorted me out with a pair of flexible hoses , and modified hard line to run the cooler lines up inside the arch.







Next , having made a new , simplified wiring loom for the engine , and fitted the amber shroud , it was time to fit the engine and box - hopefully for the last time ............















Having now completed the majority of the work underneath , I thought it was time for a change , so I took the car off the lift this week to do some interior work - fitted the dashtop ..



Today , I fabricated the seat subframes , and tomorrow , if all goes to plan , I will fit the headling , and make a start on the carpets - watch this space !!

Of course - glad you asked - Actually Le Tour Eiffel is an ex-Red Bull Soapbox racer , that I acquired from Ebay last year , and we took down to Lemans in June.

Naturally , the first thought was to fit a flat 6 , but after careful measurement a Briggs and Stratton was the only power pack we could fit at short notice. For anyone else considering such a transplant - don't bother - a lawnmower clutch just won't take the punishment

Anyway it made a great cocktail bar , and raised a few laughs - so well worth the effort - quad bike chassis is being considered for this year

Well a few weeks have passed - and finally the end is in sight

ST back box on..





Fuel tank painted and fitted ..



Carpets and cage going in ...





Quarter windows and rear screen go in - I used new genuine seals and new trims - makes this a MUCH easier job than fighting with old rubbers and twisted trims !!



With the trim going on the car is starting to look better every day , and I then got a call from Biaggio to say my re-finished Fuchs were ready - reelly pleased with the finish







I moved on to engine bay wiring and plumbing next , and fitted the front screen..



Last week I toook the car over to Mark at RS911 for a final cut and polish of the paint - the finish was excellent to my eyes before , but now it has gone to another level -





Now back home , fiited front bumper , rear will be final fixed this weekend , and if all goes to plan , I hope to fire it up too

Don't know if that's the final setup, but it's a great stance - with ST reps you see too many with too much daylight under the front wings (IMHO) - yours look cock-on

Do you have any more pictures of the rear cage? Particularly some showing how close it runs to the pillars and roof?

I'm thinking of one for my car, but most I see are miles from the sides, this looks closer, but it may be the camera angle! I use my back seats a lot (well my kids do anyway!) so it needs to be close fitting.

Do you have any more pictures of the rear cage? Particularly some showing how close it runs to the pillars and roof?

Mark's car is SWB, so the cage will not fit a LWB car. I am having cages made at the moment and I have specified extra space between the hoop and the B pillar to ensure there is space for the inertia reel mount and the upper seat belt mounting and at the top to clear the sunroof or headliner. If you are going to use harnesses then you can run the cage nice and close to the B pillar, and with no sunroof or headliner, close to the roof.

The Safety Devices cage is a pretty tight fit , so seat space for kids would be no problem - obviously the diagonal brace would be a tad intrusive - but this bolts on , so is easily removable.

Contary to the view of keeping away from the pillars so you use the standard mount I want to use the cage to replace/reinforce the original mount, much like this car. Missing the reel will be harder, but not impossible.

The original pillars are flimsy to say the least and wouldn't stand a chance on any modern seat belt anchorage test. I always put my belt on in the 911 with the faint knowledge it's not fixed to much at the back of my mind!

With regard to the SWB v LWB would this affect the main hoop? I appreciate the backstays would be different due to the rear seat pan changes.

It's the main hoop bases that will cause the problem, but it's quite possible that the SD cage is only available in one version. You need to do quite a bit of work to make them fit anyway
