How did you arrive at a £70-80k valuation?
I’m no economist or financial advisor but I’m pretty sure that most people with that kind of spare money will have bought one by now.
You can buy a lot of other cars for that amount.

I will however wish you luck in your venture, a lot of people did get very rich doing this sort of thing, but that was in the pre interwebnet days.
Nowadays it’s very easy for any Tom, Dick or Harriet to buy their own classic from the US without even getting on a plane!

£70-£80K is a conservative valuation if the description is fair and you look at price guides. Top Price for a concours, numbers matching Coupe is £120K according to Hagerty who research carefully and are respected.

There’s a big price difference between average and top price cars.

I bought an MGA and VW bus from a chap in the US. Beautiful cars. This person has a friend who’s 83 and has a heart condition and in poor health. The B car he’s had since 1977, for example. Has about 15 cars in his collection that he now wants to sell. I have first refusal on these cars as I’m know to seller.

I’ve picked out these 356s as great cars, restored to a high standard. I’m sure anyone in my shoes would look to acquire these at a good price.

I already have the VW bus and the 72 ST replica. I’d love to have the 356s here with me in Toronto - but I can’t. My view is to buy them and send them to my son to sell on. Trader, no. Opportunistic, yes.

Either I buy them for resale or someone else will.

Pm me if anyone wants more details on the car. I have not researched values of 356s, but suspect at £75k these represent good value for money. I’ll make a few bob on them. Anyone want to begrudge me for that?

Britain is a country that desperately needs those who believe in a free market economy and are capable of making a profit. Like much of the West we’re overstocked with liberal, Marxist inclined, intellectuals who foist their ideas on the rest of us until some are inclined to believe them.

I recommend economist and historian Thomas Sowell who’s on YouTube for those who think profit is a dirty word. There are many more like Sowell but you have to start somewhere.

HMRC may have a different opinion. Not a problem if you live in the US, but then the IRS may be interested.

The trader ref is to do with advertising on DDK ... imho, a little extra contribution to Ddk to help afford the running of the place in exchange for full ‘free’ advertising isn’t unreasonable when you’re specifically ‘trading’ these cars. That’s what the other ‘traders’ do

No capital gains tax on classic cars as long as its reasonable and not doing it as a trade activity, which I’m not.

I’d rather have these beauties in the UK than in US.

I Too run my own business. I had a hefty turnover last year, with a hefty profit and a hefty tax bill to pay, paying for all those who don’t pay taxes.......

And yes, I do pay my fair share of taxes. It’s just that capital gains has rules which I abide by.

I’m sure many if not most on DDK have benefited from many capital gains (tax free) with their cars the last ten years. Kettle and black I’d say

Gary you have imported more cars than many DDK traders this year alone! 3 Porsches at least?

I don’t find myself too concerned about other people’s tax affairs. We all pay far too much, about 58% in total of our earnings, so if there are any legitimate dodges.......

Who mentioned CGT? I'd be more worried about duty avoidance and income. Just trying to help, so I don't understand the insult.
