Bolloks!

Having tried to find someone to restore my badge and a couple of attempts at restoring a badge myself (with help from a friend in the jewellery trade), I became commission number 1 for Mike's new skills. I had looked at buying a new "old" badge from Porsche and having the badge restored by PD Enamels but thought both of these were too bright for my taste. My car is in lovely condition but 40 years old and I wanted the badge to fit in with the rest of it. What was great about Mike's work was that I was able to choose the amount of patina that would be retained.

I got the badge back today and all I can say is WOW! After checking it over, I couldn't resist putting it straight on and then going for a spin

The badge was cleaned front and back, a pin re-affixed and sent very nicely packaged. I'll let the pictures do the talking .......

All I can say is that it is fantastic and thank you to Mike for doing such a great job.

See we knew you were a dentist working with all that enamel, your cover is BLOWN.

Another step forward I think......

After doing a few badges another DDKer then sent me this badge, posting another new challenge,




Just about every piece of enamel was toast with a couple of exceptions. The horse was something I had not tackled before. All the branches were damaged. The pins were both missing off the back and possibly had been resoldered at some point but had been lost again.

The pins are the biggest challenge at the moment. I have tried to find brass replacements but nothing has turned up yet. I had to raid two pins from a modern red bar badge to complete the restoration. This DDKer has suggested a couple of improvements which could yet be made which I will take on board.

However, I think progress is being made, I am now happy to tackle the horse which i was previously worried about. I had to take more material off the front of the badge than I would have liked due to the amount of work. This took about 30 hours and had to do some of the enamel three times to get it right. I think we have gone from a 'scrap' badge to one that could be used. It is still not perfect but getting better. This DDKer preferred the 'distressed' look rather than fully 'blinged up'.
