Porsche 550 Spyder - Sammio kit - any thoughts?

Not Victor Meldrew, it just makes me laugh when a DIY builder, which this was by the way, adds up all his hours spent on building the car and factors that in on the value. Essentially what are you buying for £65k? It's not particularly authentic is it.

The way the ad is written sounds like the seller doesn't know much about the car at all. I'd still imagine that body is 99% GRP with 0.5% ali trim and 0.5% carbon fibre stuck on.

Having said that there is some nice work on the chassis and engine install. But that ride height is defo wrong, maybe it was setup when it had more authentic higher profile tyres fitted?

I'm not really getting those two vents in the rear deck - if they are to feed air to the engine wouldn't they be better facing the other way

I have no idea what they are for? The engine has been fitted backwards i.e. with the gear box at the very rear of the car, so the air intakes on the sils is where it gets it cooling from, but the top ones?? It will be interesting to know what the gear change is like with a 915 box sat backwards and a very long rod connecting the leaver and the box

Dunno, all depends if the engine bay is sealed and what those side vents do? The builder works in F1 so whatever has been done will work of course.

Bet you 50p it's still got a Beetle front suspension beam.

I must admit I just don't 'get' cars like this ...

OK, it might be the 'ultimate/dream spec' for the builder but the chances of anyone else thinking the same are very slim.

Surely the whole point of a 'replica' is to capture the style/feel of the original - so why install a high power/high capacity 6-cylinder engine in what was meant to be a lightweight/nimble racer.

As for statements like "Interior is finished as the original" I don't see anything in the interior that is like the original !

If I was in the market to spend £65k on a 550 replica I'd want an aluminium body, authentic chassis & a Porsche 4-cylinder engine ...
