hi yoda...just went off Tuthills advice tbh, that plus I know Nick Moss uses them as well. think mine will be c. 40% lock up....dont want it too tight as is a road car first, track car 2nd

The Kaaz is a plate diff, like the original ZF. I think the only other plate diff is the one from PowerHaus, which is much more expensive.

it will be in the assembly shed by now...
It was outside the assembly shed - but in sunshine, and looked great. Very nice finish although as others say, very odd with the original wheels on it.

The cases are 'away' they said being pinned etc. but the engine build sounds like it will be very strong and just right for the car :-)

Enjoy - back there to get mine so will take camera.

Ian

engine ...twinspark conversion, full rebuild etc just being reassembled now:

under bonnet looking tidy... a bigger tank a future upgrade (perhaps when someone works out how to plastic mould a copy for less than £3k !)

interior back in (see the welded in seat mounts that Ian had previously installed excellent for a nice low seating position):

engine bay ready to receive the rebuilt engine:

exe t c dampers on....newly refurbed steel banana arms in place of the alu ones that were fitted (some might say, a better solution but not period correct)

Have you kept it 2.7 ?

what I've done wont win brownie points from the purists! but. My dilemma on the engine (given a fixed budget) was that for choice I would rather spend my money making the engine as bulletproof as can be, than spend the same funds on making a 2.8 spec engine

hence, full rebuild..the works... boat tail crank case, knife edge crank, shuffle pinning, machined cylinder heads, new gaskets and bearings, new racespec valve springs, time serts etc etc. it has also been converted to twin plug. and front mounted oil cooler added

with regard to capacity, I have had high compression 2.7 pistons fitted. In this spec I am expecting c. 250-260bhp (SSI's have been removed)

this gives me 3 future options funds allowing:

1. swap to mahle 2.8 b & p and add high butterfly intake

OR

2. sell the 2.7 engine and have a 3 litre non mag cases engine built. which avoids any issues around the relatively soft mag cases being overstressed

OR

3. leave as is and just get on with enjoying it!

Looking good Dan, if you are thinking about the 3 litre option, you might what to keep your eye open for a pair of early turbo cases.
They are what the racers want for FIA builds so very sought after and horribly expensive, but should you see some, snap them up!

Good looking heads you have. Are those ported too?
I believe it's not recommended to boat tail magnesium cases as those are pretty weak already.

Mike: do you know current price range for 3.0 Carrera/3.0 turbo bare case? I have been looking one for quite some time but no luck yet. One is available in Pelicans sale section but it's restamped and expensive ($2500).
Are these accepted as 3.0 by FIA for 73 RSR GT4 or only 74 onward?

engine re-assembled, looking good and should be running this afternoon

centre fill tank - i couldnt resist the through the bonnet option. Tuthills werent keen to chop into an original steel bonnet but sometimes the customer is right!

twin-plugged, so why not twin-posted :)

These resto threads are just great, but sadly my budget is distinctly DIY at the moment.
Enjoy the car, it looks like the end result will be stunning

went down to Tuthills this afternoon for the inaugural start up and first drive

first time i'd seen the new paintwork - which is flawless and am v pleased with the Tangerine

everything mechanical is done now...just final fettling, decals, cornerweighting etc etc. plus race technology camera kit to be installed

engine in and new exhaust fitted:

Image

reg plate not strictly legal size but who cares:

Image

the ridge is the edge of the plates that have been welded into the front wheelarches...adds strength and helps stop it all collapsing in an accident:

Image

more new component porn:

Image

probably the cleanest it will ever be. and combined tow point / jack pad...genius:

Image

now this is a v clever piece of kit...obv its an intercom system, but it also has bluetooth. meaning you can connect your iphone and have hands free phone but more importantly music. and not have to worry about going deaf on longer journeys. also a new 12v point discreetly installed :

Image

99% there:

Image

funny thing is when I bought these retro style harness tags, I planned to paint the car slate grey! fitted to new FIA harnesses (but have retained normal belts for hopping in and out):
