Superb, nice work Tim 8)

Your car sounds so good on that youtube vid, can't wait to hear it for real at CLM or breakfast club?

Wow! The difference that one setting has made ! The car is transformed, very much for the better !
It turns out that since I started, I've been driving the injectors wrong. Now its right, VERY RIGHT!
There are low impedance injectors and high impedance injectors. The low impedance ones need a very short ,full voltage to snap them open, and then a pulsed (PWM) holding voltage to keep them open for the timed duration required for correct fuelling.
High impedance ones get a simple, full voltage pulse for the full timed duration.
I was driving high impedance injectors as if they wer low impedance. The result was that the injector opening times were probably a bit random, affected by heat, voltage etc. It was a wonder it was running at all !
Straight away it was transformed, no pops or bangs, responsive to the throttle, and screaming like a banshee !
I now need to get it properly set up on Bob' rolling road.
I think this EFI will be mega!

Well done Tim bet you feel well chuffed. You will have to give me run out next time we hook up. I bet it goes really well.

Kind regards

Resulting in 156BHP and the torque curve isn't too bad either

I'm very happy.

look at that torque ... how flat ? 8)

Must be great to drive with that kind of flexibility :)

It is. Ask me how I know!8) 8) 8)

Congrats Tim. Is this a record for BHP from a 2.2T? You've got 2.4E power there. Very impressive.

Just to add a little to this thread, I clocked the round trip to Husborne Crawley and back at 120 miles, used nearly 6 Gallons
20 MPG @ standard motorway miles.
A little disappointing really, I'll have to see what I can do to improve this.

Tim,

One observation is that your advance curve is equivalent to having only a mechanical advance distributor.

In my map (Type IV engine) i add additional advance at low throttle levels (i.e. cruise) which improves efficiency and economy - just like a vacuum advance on the dizzy.

Yes, I agree. I think the ignition map needs some work, I'll have a play around and see what happens.

Great work, and a great result!

I've got a modded Scirocco Mk2 on megasquirt (converted from KJet / CIS) and it made a huge difference. The engine is a high compression 2.0 8v with a 285 cam, big valve head. I'll dig out my spark map and post it up for you to look at general shapes (although the values will be different).

The guy who built my ECU and did the mapping for me (I was going to do it myself, but was running out of time before a trip to the 'Ring) is an ECU calibration engineer for Ford by day, so he has a good understanding of this sort of stuff - He did a lot of driveability mapping as well as WOT stuff. He reckons mapping on the road is the best place to do this, and Rolling Road is for fine tuning the WOT fuelling and spark map (det cans on to listen for pinking).

I haven't had mine on the rollers since the conversion, but it's 10mph quicker up the big hill on the 'Ring (from Bergwerk up to Steilstrecken Kurve), even without fine tuning the map. It does 30+mpg in normal driving (12mpg on the Ring) and idles at 1200 rpm like a little shopping car, despite the cam.

Having had a lot of help with the first EFI project, I'll do more of the 2nd one on my own... I think the 914 3.0 is a strong candidate. I reckon 20 bhp and 5mpg better than the Weber IDA petrol jugs should be possible.

Anyway... map to follow.

Spark map... a bit of caution required, because I'm working on MAP Sensor mapping with TPS enrichment, where yours is pure Alpha-N by the look of it.

Because of the lairy cam, I'm running about 20* advance at idle, which makes it nice and smooth. MOT emissions are a bit of an issue, but a quick remap does the trick at MOT time.

Bear in mind this is a lightweight track car, with a revvy motor, so it can run a more aggressive map without having detonation problems.
