I've just had a look at the ignition curve that Andy posted, and your map matches that... It is very aggresive between 1200 to 2000 RPM Just make sure that the tick over timing is not on the edge of the aggressive region, you should be OK.
Since the motor never had Vac Advance, then I see no reason that you'd need it now. You will for fueling though, so this will have to be sorted out.
If you can't stabilise the MAP, you could use Alpha-N instead of Speed density, TPS vs RPM on the map rather than MAP vs RPM.
Your biggest issue to iron out is the missfire.
Good luck

I see from the
www.msefi.com , that MegaTunix can log the trigger wheel !
Interesting for looking for your missfire perhaps ?

Hi Tim,
Sorry when I said 'make the advance map less extreme' I meant the vacuum advance part. The 100KPA side of the curve is as you say just like the original distrubutor curve, if you look at the other side down at 20KPA it's 10 degrees advanced. My plan is to flatten the map across the KPA range.
My car does originally have vacuum advance, did your's not? According to the manual it adds 10 degrees of advance on the presence of vacuum. No mention of how much vacuum, just vacuum
Just remembered the wobbly MAP log is back on page 10...

I'll have a look at the megatunix stuff, although I was put off by the guy who writes it moaning left right and centre that Megatune is crap, doesn't work, is poorly written etc. Not the most constructive use of a forum.

Hmm, I've not seen my engine in a while..... It may have !

I agree, but if the tool is useful.....

Fantastic!
Well done Gary - what's next?

Gary
Pleased to hear you are on top of this now.
Do you think it might benefit from some dyno time to get the last 5% out of it?
When do you think you will attempt the switch to T/B's?
Just like to add I've really enjoyed this thread.

Excellent news Gary.
Glad it's working for you.
... and the next step ??

Thanks All
Derek, Definitely more to come, a little more road tuning will help but as you say the last 5% would have to be in controlled conditions on a dyno. A technically competent passenger would speed things up as stopping each time to dial in a bit more advance is a pain!
I think it's good enough now to make the next step, I don't want to develop the ultimate advance curve for this carb setup. It's currently better than the distributor, so that's got to be a good starting point
So I'm going to enjoy the car for a couple of weeks (it's been a while!) whilst completing some of the EFI hardware off the car. Then summon up the courage to disable the car again and start from stratch with a poorly running car.
Drove to work this morning with a cold start on this setup and it was great, a few coughs, but these were definitely just a cold engine and poor fuelling.
So then Tim and Ian when can we expect an MS setup from you boys

I now have the EDIS, Fuel pump, pressure regulator, crank trigger wheel, MS, Relay board and an Imp ready for the treatment. I'd like to see the Imp on EDIS in the next week or two. Sadly the 911 is going to need a little more work (Body work that is!)
You want to see the ignition timing table I downloaded for a Turbo Imp - Revs to 10k
I presume the region of -5 Deg in the map is the tickover region - yes ?
Max Vacuum and minimum revs. This is the beauty of the mapped system, the tickover tuning need not be compromised with the driving part of the curve.
Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim, The big hole at -5 is indeed idle, a slightly bigger hole than necessary due to the high idle

Once you get the fuelling under EFI control, you should be able to improve this.

Well done Gary: just caught up with the lastest improvements.
Like Derek, I've really enjoyed this thread as it develops: very interesting

Well done mate,
guess as you say the next step is getting the injectors fitted, but at least you have a workable baseline to start from.
Plan to be up at the end of the month if you need a passenger who is possibly competent, if you can get the throttles on in time
