So the Bicester Scramble will be £30 a ticket? That's me out... Trouble is, the market is such that organisers don't care that the little guy gets priced out while there are plenty of moneyed customers to take their place.

Always. It’s happening with the businesses too - Classic Performance Engineering gone to Silverstone & YASA moving into brand new facilities…

Trouble is these events sell out the day after each one so they can charge what they like and still get 8,000 people to pay to park in a field.

Don’t get me wrong it’s still a great event but I’d rather go to something smaller like Classic Motor Hub’s cars & coffees now…

I remember when Classic Motor Hub meets were free…

Haven't been to Bicester for 2 years, price mainly, but a better 'show' imho and my interests.
No autojumble.

NEC last year on Saturday was not very busy, made the show nicer being able to walk in a straight line down the exhibits.

My interests now are Race Retro as ever, more my 'era' and the one day Restoration Show.

But yes, fully agree. I bought my tickets for the Essen Motor Show last night. They were 20€, and guaranteed there'll be amazing stuff there. Earlier in the week I'd looked at tickets for the Zoute Grand Prix, and like every year I remembered why I've never bothered. Three different events, all requiring a ticket (with no re-entry) and 65€ just for parking! For two folk to see it all it'd be a 300€ day out, before petrol. Not fùcking happening.

I was offered a free ticket so, in spite of better judgement, I went along this morning - & my opinion was the same as it's been every time I've been to the show (luckily I've never had to pay) ...

A load of of (mainly) old blokes talking cr*p about/enthusing over many cars that weren't particularly interesting (or any good in many cases) when they were new

I was probably that old bloke Andy. I’m 76 now, a time of life when I find you live each day doing what you want as it may not last.. I drove the 6 hrs there and back taking a good motoring mate whose wife has terminal cancer - we enjoyed our day - car journeys are such a good space to talk about difficult things. We met a number of motoring mates and made some new friends, as we often do. The big old Bugattis were fabulous, and I talked crap with the restorer from Kent who brought his beautiful 750 Abarth double bubble GT Zagato in mid build to show - his passion was no doubt as vivid and captivating as many of the younger petrolheads down in the bowels of the lower Halls standing proudly beside their wacky Ford rebuilds. We had a good day, sadly we didn’t get in free, but I enjoyed treating my mate, even if we did both bemoan the exorbitant parking charges..

I've seen the BOC stand on facebook and as ever, looks great. It was much the same last years, but a very nice display.

It is only the costs that put me off, tempted as a solo visitor tomorrow but will watch the GP instead (!).

My oldest friend has his wife in a terminal cancer situation, so understand...

I'm 74 next March, so feel the Old Man a bit, but doing these events and much more keeps things 'Old Man' to a minimum!

I talked to him too - that car was my 'stand out' car of the show - being restored to a fantastic standard (far better than when new).
