a. The cable you took out may not be original. It may have snapped once before and been shortened, especially if it lacks the pressing on the speedo end of the inner worm, which prevents the worm pulling through towards the gearbox. Maybe it will fit with a load of slack in the tunnel or something but I dont want to spend hours trying to find out it doesnt work. Maybe its for a 915 gearbox car? im not sure where the speedo take off is on one of those cars.

Probably telling my nan how to suck eggs here but in case it's not obvious, I'd blow out the old sleeve with compressed air, wash with an evaporative cleaner such as carb or brake cleaner, blow out again, and re-lubricate with lithium grease, for the best chance of it lasting.knapmann wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 4:02 pmHi Sean

In the mean time i have welded the two ends of my original cable back together and re-installed it... maybe I can run a sweep on how long it will last!
I fitted the carpoint one to mine after trying a few of the usual suspects offerings including Porsche. The carpoint one was the same length as the original. I have purchased a lot of parts from carpoint and must say that the quality and fitment of the parts that they supply is on par with the original porsche items, and often they are cheaper than most suppliers including delivery, remember you don’t pay the VAT on orders under £135 including delivery so I tend to wait and order several bits that I need.knapmann wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 4:02 pmHi Sean

You win the sweep, 3 miles was pretty much bang on. I’ll give the welded one three mile's. It’s the last couple of feet up to the speedo that’s the cable killer!
The porsche offering I bought (read that as very long and expensive and used in the 74 on cars lasted all of about 300 yards before it snapped).
