Precision sump plates.

Years ago on VW Beetles I was taught not to put both paper gaskets on dry, but to lightly coat them with red grease and rub it into the paper, then install the sump plate and gaskets.

Using this method, never had a Beetle or my old 356 or 912 leak any oil from the sump plate, so it must work?

Thank you for this. I've never heard of it. You can also buy rubber gaskets for the sump which can be reused more often. I have them on my 356 and I've never had any issues.

Precision Matters sump plate, bought one at the Lit Meet. Fit it, forget it - perfect.

"So is it Sump or Slump?" "Slump" is the one you have that is curved.

I'm not sure how strong the magnetic is if you can easily remove it

Ive just bought some stuff from Willhoits, but was planning to use my original plate and replace studs in block as someone has put 6mm bolts in with the heads inside....

Mike If you you decide on one, i will go halves with you on shipping etc. I have no preference on which dump slump it is.

Ron LaDow, the proprietor has advised me the postage for one plate will be around $90 but the shipping cost of 3 or 4 plates will be almost the same.

Aye! I could be tempted, pending Simon’s feedback - if he says the HP one changed his life I might get be undecided between them. I like the look of the PM one and the super powerful magnet, but the ease of using just a magnetic plug for oil changes on the HP ones does sound appealing...
