The knurled knob has a small recessed grub screw in it. It can also be a bu**er to get out if the car has been left unattended/damp and it has got rusted in. Lots of penetrating oil is all you can do - heat is not really an option unless you are planning a full blast clean and have everything flammable well out of the way.

It has to be loosened, or drilled out, as until you remove the knob you cannot get the securing bezel off and the trip cable back through the hole.
