Thanks for everyones comments, Yes I'm hoping there will be a big difference in the cars handling specially in steering and cornering. As it was before I never felt very confident pushing hard into corners and the steering was to say the least sloppy! With the 911 engine at the back the car used to feel unbalanced with the back wanting to react faster than the front would let it. I'm hoping that this will balance it out, he says with fingers crossed
As for the wheels I like em yeah a little bling maybe but they do look nice on a 356

When I take it for setting up at Centre Gravity I was going to drive it, Red 9 are having it tracked so it should be ok to drive down? I'll know better when I pick the car up next week and drive it home.

Maybe a little high but handling will be the deciding factor in the final hight. The wheels are 15x5.5J, 45et with 195 60 x 15 which are very close to the rears from the 911sc and the front size that the car came on so the gearing should be ok as should the speedo too.

Hi Rich,
Yes I pick her up last week on Tuesday, drove round the corner to put some petrol in and drove straight back :( the stearing was awful! It was like there was a dead spot on it I had to turn the wheel well over a quater of a whole turn just to make anything happen or go round the slightest of corners, so I drove back! Simon made some adjustments and it seamed to be a little better. Driving home was well, different! I took it to a four wheel alignmentplace near to where I live, they have set it up and it drives fine in a straight line but to turn the slightest of corner you have to turn the wheel a stupid amount like over a third of a turn and even more to corect it again. I think there is a fault with the stearing rack Red 9 are happy to have it back to look at it and to swap the rack but I don't feel comfortable driving up there, so they are going to get it picked up (it was going to be today but there was a problem with the pick up guy maybe Thursday now?) Please will you tell me what your stearing is like?

Thats funny

To be honest l think the problem exists with the universal steering joint. Basically poor quality replacement parts from china or wherever.

I had the same problem and discussed this with Si and told him my findings. I had a new universal joint I had bought many years ago made in Germany in the garage, I show him both units and you could see the difference in quality. Mainly being the roller bearing joint having to much slop resulting in to much play at the wheel for a new unit.

He did say he would try and source a new supplier but apparently he may not have???

Have a read of my thread cos l replaced the plastic bush which they supply at the bottom of the steering column with a roller bearing from a 1303. Another worthwhile modification as again to much slop in the plastic bush for my liking. May have been just down to various shaft thickness Vw may have used??? Check yours by pushing steering wheel upto the windscreen and down to your thighs, should be little play. If alot, ask for that to be changed for a smaller inner bore plastic bush or modify for a roller bearing bush from a 1303. In the end l think l put more work went into the Steering shaft than fitting the front end and rear.

Nothing to worry about really, if these issues were addressed before when brought up then you would have driven away a happy bunny. I'm sure Si will sort it out though given chance.
