The friday evening was great to catch up, matching faces to the usernames we are so familiar with here on the forum. Johnny Tipler from 911 and porsche world joined us and he appeared to be a true Porschista. Anyone who does a 160 mile round trip to drop the kids off to school on a daily basis is a true free spirit.
Nonetheless, my day started with breakfast.
Saturday 12th: CB inn, Castle Bolton, Masham, Buckden, back to CB inn via Grinton to Reeth.
I said the day started with breakfast but that was counted without the friendly girl behind the bar. BREAKFAST STARTS AT HALF EIGHT THANK YOU. Oh okay, right, got an hour to spare then.
With me came Bootsy, Mike (the GP white mike instead of black RS one ) and Larry, who lovingly dried Helens 912 with a purpose space age towel.
James made a fantastic road map for every participant, having recce'd the area extensively. Josephine and he coloured each traject with a highlighter on the black and white map. I couldnt help but think that a colour printer was perhaps less of a commitment but well done none the less. Everyone knew everyone by now, so Barry came to enquire what I was going to do with Jazi. I looked, crawled underneath, (found that enclosure between the fuel tank and the front valance full of grass and moorland- no wonder the nose was a bit low- and sadly there was a trace of rabbit that ran into my foglight. It must have ran quite hard because it was obvious it exited midway my rear valance.
Anyway, it was a case of pumping oop that space saver wheel and proceed to find a garage. Every porsche was gleaming and shone beautifully, whilst mine, well, .... Peter Robain, the photographer of 911 and Porsche world, arrived and introduced to everyone. He seemed a great bloke and blended in effortlessly.
After breakfast, the troop left for Castle Bolton, via Tan Hill onto buttertubs road. I was already well familiar with that route, so I went to a local garage. Chap needed 30 mins and whilst I jetwashed my car he got all sorted. We met up at Castle Bolton.
James made sure that after about 90 mins driving, there was a stop to let the cars cool down, the allow the passengers to use the facilities and us to congegrate. Picture moments galore. I showed Johnny my long range fuel tank (as you do) and left the whatsthename that secures the spare wheel to the car on the grass. Bummer.
Johnny joined me in the targa. Peter was posted somewhere strategically and got every car on camera. The first part was over b-roads, whilst the latter part was over A roads. I was the fifth car, out of 17, but sadly before Brendan. (bjmullan). That car..... everytime he downshifted, he left a cloud of blue schmoooke where 14 others wooshed through. It all added to my experience. (real men smell of castrol and sweat, darling)
We were warned for the occasional tourist, caravan or campervan and on two occasions we did meet them. This Shogun driver, who ignored James' yellow thing as he wasnt looking in his rear view mirror. Then the campervan we overtook, he looking frustrated as 17 rattleboxes blasted past.
James organised to assemble all on a cricket pitch in Masham, where everyone was free to find a bite. Who did arrive? Campervan man.
Overheard during lunch: "did your car ground during some of the traject?" "yes it did." barry: "that is being gentle on the tyres then".
The afternoon proceeded over a stunning selection of B road moors,
grassington, kettlewell, wharfedale, buckden. Again, small stop and go go go. I found myself behind Derek's 914/4. It was as if beelzebub was driving, whilst making popcorn in Hell's kitchen. A 914 doesnt really need to go slow in, fast out- it just needs to keep the momentum going. Watch that man: a 993 powered 911 is in the making.Woa.
After Buckden car park stop, it was over B roads, mostly deserted, straight into the Yorkshire national Park back to base. Aysgarth, Caperby, redmire, Grinton, (tank roads: b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-ll-) with lots of hidden dips and corners. James kept a good pace and I found myself behind Mark (sladey) who seemed to slow down in order to accelerate flat out. These 3.2's ..... tsk tsk tsk, he should've gone for a carrera 3.0 but hey.
We arrived safely at the CB inn, everyone having a big smile - and with a wiff of castrol.
Bert

OK at home now a just uploaded some more.
I didn't go up until the Saturday morning. Had a boring (but fast) journey up the M1 and then A66(?) until I had to turn off onto a fantastic road. The day started for me right there. All 4 wheels left the ground at one stage as the road suprisingly fell away. Fantastic drive!, and then arrived at CB Inn to see all the cars - brilliant stuff.
Was able to assist with the changing of Bert's tyre as, coming from a management background, I have previous experience in watching others work.
Anyway, the pics...
Saturday - what a brilliant day's driving. Got a bit clogged up with traffic towards teh end of the day but earlier on it was amazing.
Nice stop-off
Sunday
Miserable weather, but excellent company and grat roads - just a pity we couldn't make the most of them. James did a fantastic job in organising the whole thing
Lord Mexborough's Gaff
DDK meets the Mex collection
That's my car next to Lord M's Ferraris
We couldn't work this one out at first. Then we realised he must have trouble remember which cars he has owned so rather than putting this stuff on a database he has a model of each car he's owned with the reg number and the years owned on it
This is how to store your car mags
A couple of shots from the porsche garage - just the 9 porsches then
The guy that showed us around mentioned that they are tending to get rid of ferraris now and buying porsches. We asked if this was to do with the markets but it's just to do with What Lord M feels like. living the dream! He'd just taken delivery of a brand new turbo which I have to say looked way more impressive in the flesh than in all the magazines.
If I had to have one car? The white RSR. Whilst they are a real distortion of the pure 911 shape they are so balls-out, in yer face, built for a purpose that it looks goreous. The only thing is that if I did have it then I would have to go into hiding to stop Mike from stalking me/the car. By the time we left he'd just about talked himself into going for it.
It was a great week-end - looking forward to the next one
Mark

I've emailed Johnny and thanked him and Paul for attending. I've also sent him some DDK Notes on how the club was formed etc. etc. Can't wait to see the write up.

What a fantastic weekend! Great roads, great people, great food, the black sheep was fantastic, the beer that is, not the sheep...... thanks again to James for making it all happen
Have to apologise to those who had the mis-fortune to follow me at any stage and choked on the fumes during the runs, as on the way home called in to Neil Bainbridge to drop off some parts for Mike 210hp, and he noticed a couple of problems!
The points had moved again, did the same during Le Mans, and unconnected to that, the choke was not shutting off completely which was causing the high fuel consumption, 10mpg! and black smoke.
An extra shim in the cold start washer rack in the injection pump has pushed off the choke when hot now, but I will get the pump calibrated again at the end of this season, and the points problem caused by play in the distributor shaft, will not happen again, as now I do not have points at all! Car then ran beautifully smoothly the rest of the way home.
Bert thanks for the comsultation, will be picking a stone up on the way to work today

Mike, your car didn't seem to be down on performance when on the drive
Looks like I need to have another think about my suspension settings on my car. Lifting the front inside wheel when cornering on a public road needs to be addressed
