Well Mike, I hadn't expected it to be like that. It makes me take a deep breath and blink and it's not even my car! Still you know it's going to be as good as new, or more likely better, in Barry's hands.
It is so good to see these renovations. Can't wait to the progression.

Sobering stuff. Remind me never to never start poking at my 356.
Loving the Barry magic. Presumably you caught him pre-brexit. :-)

Fantastic thread Mike..looking forward to the next installment... Can I ask if the Porsche replacement latch panel you have used is correct for your car and what other years would it cover?
Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon

Thanks for your comments. Glad you are enjoying the thread. I will update with more pictures soon.

I take it you are referring to the front slam panel in your question. For LWB cars, the front slam panel changed sometime in MY 72. As always, it seems there is some overlap in exact dates and chassis numbers when the later panel became commonplace. From early MY 72 through to the end of MY 73 the front slam panel has two drain holes on the leading edge in front of the aluminium vin plate. Before that there were none. All the modern replacement panels, afaik, have the holes and they need to be removed for pre 72 cars during restoration.

Regards
Mike

So the front and right side now looking much better. Quite a bit of work for a shell that didn't look too bad at the start.

Of course the other side was worse.

So, on with the other side. Barry sent a few pictures of the task in hand. Lots of work to do on the lhs (which Barry commented is often the worse) with rust and the odd previous repair to rectify. Quite a bit of work on a shell that didn't look too bad at the start.
