Very excited to see it go off to paint. On Conrad's recommendation I entrusted it to OSC in Chessington for the right balance of quality/cost.

And back home.

Ok, whats next?

Nice paint job. Chessington is local to me and I need a rear bumper painted. It looks good from the photos. How would you rate OSC?

Hi Paul,
I would definitely recommend them. No issues at all with the paint. The owner there is Robbie, nice guy. i have no connection to them other than following a recommendation. Here's a picture of my bumpers done.

My next job was to sort out the roof panel sound deadening. Especially as the many downstream jobs needed the headlining in first.

I ordered some 6mm dynaliner by way of replacement. These pictures are not great but I cut a single sheet to fit. I had read that the headlining would likely snag on the new sound deadening and to cut grooves to for the headlining.
As my headlining rods are rusty and pitted I ordered an new set but offering them up it was impossible to to get them to fit. I retrieved the originals, cleaned them up and painted them. They fit perfectly.

Meanwhile the engine and gearbox which had been removed prior to metal work was dropped off for a rebuild with Lee at Octane Garage in Crowborough. I have no relevant experience in engine rebuilding and while if I was time rich I would have tackled it I had to hand it over.

A friends van came in useful for the trip to Octane Garage.

I decided on the engine spec, It's going to be E and a bit spec, 2.2S pistons, new mahle barrels, supertec head studs, case/crank/rods/oil bypass/time serts by Rob Walker Performance Engineering, MFI pump re profiled to E spec by Michael Burgess, throttle stacks opened up, carrera oil pump, E+ cams and Classic Retrofit CDI+. Lee at Octane Garage did the engine rebuild.
cruddy!

Back home !

Gearbox rebuilt and read to mate up.

Some wax for the gearbox and ready to go back in!

I needed a new engine lid from Porsche which I had sent straight to the painters. New lids don't have cutouts for the number license plate lights. Doh !

Looks great Mark, did the lid have the holes for the badges? I’ve a template you can borrow if not.

It did not Gary, but they were templated from my old lid. I need to refinish the script and letters, was going to use some satin black rattle.Gary71 wrote:Looks great Mark, did the lid have the holes for the badges? I’ve a template you can borrow if not.

Next up was the engine bay sound deadening.
When I stripped the car the original was turning to dust.

Glueing the new one into place. Don't laugh at my support frame!
