OK I’ve done that now - disconnected all three on a bank and then tested for continuity between the two pins. No continuity on either bank which is good

Each injector is typically under 20 ohms which is low enough to get a “beep”, plus 3 in parallel is 1/3 of the resistance of one.

Once again Bruce you are way beyond my pay grade but I know a beep when I hear one and when I don’t. Thanks for your help!

Ok so while I can’t do anything more on the engine (I’m going to drop the ecu off at David’s - Canems- house tomorrow ) I thought I’d attend to the little jobs I was going to do once I’d got it running.

The first was the front left indicator not working. Unusually for me I approached it methodically and was lucky enough to find it was just a loose connection.

The second job was to fit the RS bonnet prop (since fitting the AC my supercool rennline carbon bonnet rams won’t fit)

And finally I’ve booked someone to come to the house and gas up the AC. Hopefully he’s coming on Monday.

In case this does not go to plan I’m having to replace a split wheel on the GT4 so I’m picking that up tomorrow as well

Dropped the ecu off this morning and met David. Nice guy - he said he’ll do what he can to turn it around quickly for me which is great. I’m just hoping that it is the ECU - that is the problem. Every thing we did points at that though so fingers crossed.

The AC guy is calling around later on today

cool
maverick
noun
1. an unorthodox or independent-minded person.
2. an unbranded calf or yearling.
Origin mid 19th century: from the name of Samuel A. Maverick (1803–70), a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle.

I see what you did there.

OK the aircon man has been and he was just the sort of guy you want working on your car. I only rang him on Saturday morning and he came tonight at around 6:40 - didn’t leave until 8:30.

Before he came he’d downloaded the classic retrofit manual and read up on what was needed

He pressure tested it on 10 bar of pressure first and it held that without any problems with no loss at all.

He then pulled out the nitrogen and pulled a vacuum. He left it holding that vacuum for another 25 minutes. - which he said would remove all moisture from the system.

Here we are, mid vacuum

Then he finally filled it with the gas (I forget the name).

Great service. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test it because the engine isn’t running yet, so looks like I’ll just have to cross some more fingers

1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod

Ok so things are getting a bit tense now…

Not heard from David on the ECU yet. Stupidly when I dropped it off with him on Monday I forgot to get his mobile number. He’s off this week so not sure if he’s checking emails or not - so the upshot is that I have no means of getting in touch with him.

He said he’d hope to get it sorted by the end of Tuesday but I’ve heard nothing from him so far. I’ve decided if I don’t hear from him today I’m going to drive up to Doncaster this evening and check on progress (and get a mobile number). The waiting is stressing me out too much.

In other news my replacement throttle strut/bar arrived. Can you tell which is the new one?

It is going to wear through it at some stage and best to replace it now.

At the other end is this fancy dance locking pin

Image
Which is a really neat arrangement but an absolute bugger to get at with everything else in place - you can’t get your hands between the intake towers and then flex them enough to slide the pin in

Eventually I got there with some long needle-nosed pliers - once I managed to insert the pin I was able to get my hand in there and click it into place.

It’s nice to get all these jobs done but I’m very much in limbo at the moment.

As going in the modern car looks like a very real possibility it forced me to get on with replacing a wheel that I’d been told was cracked.

Turned out it was actually cracked in two places

Image

Then on Monday night the Aircon guy spotted a puddle of coolant where the gt4 had been parked. I had the radiator replaced 10 days ago after it holed so was worried that they hadn’t done the job properly. So that night having no car to take at all was looking a possibility.

I mopped up the puddle and checked it again this morning. No puddle. I think the puddle was left over after the original leak about 10 days ago (which I had never cleaned up).

We shall see.

It might be worth starting the GT4 and running it up to temperature, just to see if there is a leak, once the system is up to pressure, if you have not already done this?

Thanks for that - I’m driving the GT4 every day so it’s getting up to temp daily. I’ll just keep on monitoring it.

Great news is that I’ve heard back from David at Canems that “ hopefully all sorted” so I’m going to pick it up tonight.

I’m interpreting that as him finding something wrong with it (and fixing it) but will clarify when I collect it.

Now both excited and nervous.
