Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
Bingo.
Fully fabricated.
Tested working.
And sanded smooth, and blacked with heat and oil.
The book said to expect six shims... I found eight. Not sure what to make of that. I moved three to the outside of the pulley.

Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
That is a lot of work!
Looked and posted my reply last night, but seems out of order, operator error i expect.
Get that other sill done!
Shim number all depends on the belt when new or when 'run-in' and a bit stretched.
Must admit I've never needed to re shim a new belt from installation to renewal, I've possibly replaced mine 6 times over the years.

Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
It was about an hour all in, maybe an hour and a half, spread over two evenings. I needed to do something that would be completed quickly, for my own sanity. And starting the engine reminded me the fan belt squeals, so I wanted to fix that.911hillclimber wrote:That is a lot of work!

Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
Round two if anyone enjoys guessing... this one's dead easy.
I put this old taper drive drill bit in a makeshift lathe.
Cut the end off
And cut the end off again.
To get this high tensile tube.

Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
I cut the head off this high tensile bolt.
The sleeve I cut goes perfectly over this 19mm impact socket.

Re: Can you guess what it is yet?
From the head of the high tensile bolt I fashioned a couple of these prisms.
Which I welded into the socket.
A smaller shim on the bottom of these two.
Tidied up the end of this with the grinder.
Welded the shims and the tube to a 46mm crow's foot. The base plate is to reduce its propensity to tilt when torque is applied. The tube is to hold the smaller socket so they can only move radially with respect to each other.
From the bottom. That's gonna be hot for a long time.
I don't have total confidence in the welds on the high tensile steel but well see when I use it.
